IGM SETS NEW STANDARD FOR CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTATION

“FACE YOUR CONSTITUENTS” — AN OPEN, ISSUE-BASED PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY DEBATE FOR AWKA NORTH & SOUTH

The Ide Global Movement (IGM), having carefully reflected on recent public exchanges concerning constituency projects, representation and accountability, has reached a fundamental conclusion:

The people of Awka North & South must no longer settle for inferior, visionless or self-centred representation.

Going forward, the quality of representation must be determined not merely by party affiliation, political connections, campaign promises or financial capacity, but by integrity, competence, capacity, character, credibility, vision, track record, accessibility and demonstrable commitment to the people.

Accordingly, IGM is developing a minimum Constituency Leadership Performance Standard/KPI against which every candidate seeking to represent Awka North & South Federal Constituency should be willing to submit himself or herself.

FACE YOUR CONSTITUENTS

As part of this initiative, IGM is consulting with relevant state and privately owned communications media organisations towards convening an open, transparent and issue-based public debate to be known as:

“FACE YOUR CONSTITUENTS”

A People-Centred Debate on Leadership, Accountability and the Future of Awka North & South

The proposed forum will provide an equal platform for candidates across political parties and affiliations to present their visions, defend their records and respond directly to questions from the people they seek to represent.

This is not intended to be a campaign rally, partisan confrontation or platform for character assassination.

It is an accountability platform.

Candidates will be expected to address, among other things:

- Integrity and personal character
- Competence and intellectual capacity
- Leadership experience and track record
- Legislative knowledge and effectiveness
- Constituency development vision
- Youth and women empowerment
- Education, healthcare and infrastructure
- Employment, enterprise and economic opportunities
- Agriculture and rural development
- Access to federal programmes and institutions
- Transparency and management of constituency interventions
- Security and social development
- Accessibility and responsiveness to constituents
- Specific, measurable and achievable first-term priorities

Candidates will also be encouraged to distinguish between what they can promise, what they can influence and what they can realistically deliver within the constitutional responsibilities and limitations of a federal legislator.

THE IGM MINIMUM REPRESENTATION TEST

IGM believes that the electorate deserves more than slogans.

Accordingly, candidates should be prepared to demonstrate:

WHO ARE YOU? — Your integrity and character.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? — Your record and experience.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW? — Your competence and capacity.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? — Your vision and programme.

HOW WILL YOU DO IT? — Your strategy and measurable priorities.

HOW WILL WE KNOW YOU HAVE DONE IT? — Your accountability mechanism.

The ultimate test should therefore be simple:

Character. Competence. Capacity. Vision. Performance. Accountability

IGM will not endorse mediocrity on the basis of party sentiment. Neither will it condemn competence merely because it comes from another political platform.

The constituency belongs to the people—not to any individual, political party, political structure or temporary office holder.

We therefore call upon all prospective candidates to welcome this initiative in the spirit of democratic maturity and allow the electorate to listen, question, compare and decide intelligently.

We equally invite civil society organisations, professional bodies, traditional institutions, youth and women groups, the media and other stakeholders to participate in developing a credible and objective Awka North & South Constituency Representation KPI.

OUR POSITION IS SIMPLE

No more representation by sentiment alone.
No more promises without measurable programmes.
No more claims without evidence.
No more politics without accountability.

The people deserve representatives who can think, lead, negotiate, legislate, attract development, communicate effectively and remain accountable to their constituents.

IGM therefore looks forward to working with the media and other stakeholders to establish “FACE YOUR CONSTITUENTS” as a credible democratic platform where candidates can present their records, defend their ideas and answer directly to the people.

Let the best ideas compete.
Let the records speak.
Let the candidates face the people.
Let the people decide.

AWKA NORTH & SOUTH DESERVES NOTHING LESS THAN QUALITATIVE, PURPOSEFUL AND ACCOUNTABLE REPRESENTATION.

Happy Sunday Umunnem

May this Sunday restore your peace, renew your strength, and bring clarity to your mind and spirit. As we step into a new week, let us remember that true leadership is not proclaimed but practiced—it lives in the quiet discipline of purpose, the will to uplift those around us, and the steadiness to hold firm to our values even when no one is watching. Legacy is not built in grand moments alone, but in the sum of small, faithful acts repeated with integrity over time.

Whatever tomorrow brings, meet it with courage, dignity, and unwavering faith. But before tomorrow arrives, let today be for rest—for reflection, for realigning with the higher purpose that called you to lead in the first place.
