*PSALM 119:49-56*

*KEY VERSE:*_
*"I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself" (PSALM 119:52).*_

*MESSAGE:*
*A powerful weapon of the Lord in the hands of believers is His Word. It can be described as the spoken commitment of the Saviour with regard to the welfare of His children. An unmovable fact about the word of the Lord is that it involves His divine integrity. The Bible says "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19).*

*David realised this and determined that "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (Psalm 138:2). The Lord vowed through Isaiah that none of the words He had spoken would return unto Him void: "It shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:10, 11). The word of God is spirit and life; it is the anchorage of the believer in trouble. No wonder, God's children meditate therein day and night.*

*We can all relate to the experiences narrated here. They are experiences of trials of faith alongside the enduring accompaniment of grace. He was familiar with the "proud" and their boastful remarks, reproachful behaviour and calculated assaults (Psalm 119:51). He felt the night of existence where no human friend or comforter could bear his burden. But he had faith in the faithfulness of the Lord: "He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep" (Psalm 121:3, 4).*

*Today, a believer has a shelter in the word of God. Jesus never fails. His word is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17) that will vanquish the enemy. We should therefore seize the wisdom that the writer applies to our text: "waiting on the Lord". The Bible says, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).*

DO NOT LOSE YOUR FERVENCY

Our anchor scripture for today:
"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love".

God is above all. He owns us all, keeps us all and wants us all. At the beginning of our journeys with Him, we surrendered all to Him. You remember that "I surrender all" song you sang, raising your hands in tears and making a covenant of total commitment to Him, alone? Yes, at that point, nothing else mattered. You meant it to love and serve Him with all your life. And you enjoyed doing that, yet, feeling that you owed Him much more than you could offer.

In the process of time, you began to withdraw from the place of your commitment. It hurt you, initially, and you asked Him to forgive you and help you to be all fired up for Him. That "little fire" did not last. Little by little, you became very comfortable with "half measures" for Him. It became your "new normal" and things moved on. Your heart became cold and withdrawn from Him until you began to do things mechanically, without that "inner fire".

God noticed! Yes, you heard me. He did not withdraw from you because that is not His nature but because you did shift from Him, a gap was created between you and Him. He wants you back to Him. He hungers for your first love. That's what He has against you, that you lost your first love without missing it. He wants you to return. He knows you still love Him but you know things changed. Today, He wants a restoration of your first love, all of you for Him, no half measures. Never make God a memory of the past instead of a daily experience and commitment, my friend.

Heavenly Father, keep me today from the fatal habit of thinking that I must say something on every occasion. Release me from the craving to straighten out everybody's affairs. Make me thoughtful, but not moody; helpful, but not bossy. Keep my mind free from the recitals of endless details. Seal my lips on my aches and pains. Lord, bless me with growing humility. Teach me the lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet. l do not want to be a saint who is so hard to live with. Give me the ability to see good in people and give me the grace to tell them so.
I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
