SUG ATBU WELCOMES NANS PRESIDENT ON COURTESY VISIT

The Students’ Union Government (SUG), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, warmly received the President and Commander-in-Chief of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Akinteye Babatunde “Babtee,” alongside his entourage, on a courtesy visit to the institution today.

The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement between the NANS leadership, sister unions, SUG ATBU, and the University management.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs ably represented the Vice-Chancellor at the engagement, reflecting the importance of collaboration between student leadership and the University administration.

SUG ATBU remains committed to fostering partnerships that promote student welfare, unity, and progress.

Inaugural speech of the President Elect, ATBU, Bauchi.

The Vice-Chancellor heavily represented by our father the Dean of Students affairs, the student affairs officer, the Hall Administrator, the University legal adviser, Outgoing SUG President , the Senate President of the 8th Assembly, other distinguished members of the high table, elected members of the SUEC, members of the Students' Representative Assembly, other invited guests, fellow Balewites, ladies and gentlemen - good day, and thank you for honoring me with your presence.

There is a moment in the life of every institution when its people must decide what kind of future they want to build - and today, my fellow Balewites, that moment belongs to us.I stand before you not as a man who has achieved anything by winning election, but as a man who has just began putting the first blocks in the transformational reform of our union. I do not take this office as a prize. I take it as a responsibility-a promise made to every student who believed, every voice that trusted a process, and every hand that worked to bring us here. Nelson Mandela reminded the world that leadership is a temporary opportunity to serve, not a permanent claim to power. I receive this mandate in that same spirit: as service, not entitlement.

That is what I want you to hold onto today. Not my name, not this podium, not this moment of ceremony- but the proof that when ordinary students decide to believe together, they can move an entire institution.

Fellow students, we come from different faculties, different states, different backgrounds, and different convictions. But an institution divided against itself cannot stand strong before its challenges. Our strength as a student body will never come from how loudly we disagree, but from how firmly we can unite once a decision is made in the collective interest.

I am not the president of one faculty, one hostel, one state, or one particular people. I am the president of everybody, i am the president of every student who calls this university home. And I am asking you - genuinely, sincerely - to put aside whatever divided us during the season of campaigns, and to stand as one body with one purpose: the advancement of ATBU and everyone in it.

A united student body is not a body that never disagrees. It is a body that disagrees with respect, resolves with maturity, and moves forward together. That is the union I intend to lead, and that is the union I am asking each of you to help me build.

To my fellow students - especially those who will come after us - I ask you today to lift your eyes beyond these gates. We are not merely students passing through a university; we are the future custodians of this nation and this continent. What we build here, in the way we organize ourselves, resolve conflict, hold leadership accountable, and serve one another, is a rehearsal for what we will one day be asked to do for the nation.

Do not think small because you are young. Do not think local because you are on a campus. Every great mind that has shaped this world once sat exactly where you are sitting - uncertain of the future, but unwilling to be small in their thinking. I urge you: build networks that outlast your degree, build skills that travel beyond this campus, build a name that people trust anywhere you go. ATBU is where we begin. It was never meant to be the ceiling of our ambition.

To our respected University Management, I extend not a list of demands today, but an open hand of improved partnership. The relationship between students and management should be enhanced. It should be one of dialogue and shared responsibility for the wellbeing of every student on this campus.I am asking, respectfully, that we build together a proactive not a reactive working relationship. A university thrives fastest when its leadership and its students are pulling the same rope, in the same direction. That is the partnership I am committing my administration to, and that is the partnership I humbly request from you in return.

To every student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University: this administration will be built on discipline, on service, and on results. There will be difficult days ahead. There will be moments when progress feels slow. But I give you my word today: I will not relent, I will not be distracted from your interest, and I will not lead this union by convenience when it demands courage.

Before I close, I must acknowledge those who made this day possible. To the outgoing SUG administration - thank you for your service and for the platform you leave behind for us to build on. To the Students' Representative Assembly, thank You for shaping me, to my mentors, thank you for your continued guidance and support, to the elected officials and parliamentarians, I look forward to a partnership defined by common goals and a shared purpose. To every student who worked, organized, and believed - from every faculty, every hostel, every corner of this campus - this victory belongs to you as much as it belongs to me. And to my parents, family, friends, and the team that stood by me from the very first day of this journey - thank you for carrying this vision with me.

To every student - thank you for your trust.

The task ahead of us is greater than any one man. But I believe, with everything in me, that together , we will rise. Lets put our hands together, put our legs on the pedal, step fully on the accelerator, go out there and make history,

UPDATE ON THE RESTORATION OF ESSENTIAL CAMPUS UTILITIES

A LEGACY OF SERVICE, A GIFT TO THE STUDENTS.
On Saturday, we witnessed the commissioning of the Prof. S.E. Bogoro Bus Terminal, a remarkable project facilitated and completed under the administration of Amb. Abdullahi Munirat Favour.

Beyond the infrastructure is a thoughtful response to a real need — providing students with a safer, more comfortable, and convenient space while waiting for transportation.

We celebrate this achievement and appreciate the dedication, resilience, and commitment that brought this project to reality. It is a meaningful contribution to student welfare and a reminder that purposeful leadership is measured by the lives it impacts.

As we look ahead, we are inspired to build upon the progress made, remain committed to the interests of our students, and continue the work of making ATBU a better place for all.
