The engagement provided an important space for learning, reflection, dialogue, and the exchange of diverse perspectives on what it means to participate safely and meaningfully in civic life.

A Significant Step Forward for Mental Health in Nigeria 🇳🇬

The decision by the Federal Government to decriminalise attempted su***de and approve the Mental Health Act marks a significant step towards building a more compassionate, inclusive, and mentally healthy society.

At ADAI, we believe that individuals experiencing mental health challenges deserve support, understanding, dignity, and access to appropriate care,not criminalisation or stigma.

This development is a stepping stone for individuals, communities, organisations, and mental health advocates working towards a society where seeking help is encouraged and no one is made to feel ashamed for struggling.

We commend the Federal Government and all relevant ministries, agencies, lawmakers, mental health professionals, advocates, civil society organisations, and stakeholders whose efforts have contributed to this important progress.

May this be the beginning of stronger mental health policies, increased access to care, greater public awareness, and a Nigeria where mental health is treated with the seriousness, compassion, and attention it deserves.
