International Youth Day 2026

Different contexts. Common aspirations.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, thrive, earn a decent livelihood, live in a safe and healthy environment, and have a voice in the decisions that shape their future.

At GRI, we believe young people are not just beneficiaries of development, they are partners and changemakers.

Today, we celebrate their ideas, courage and potential, and reaffirm our commitment to creating communities where every young person can learn, lead, thrive and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Happy International Youth Day!

This World Drowning Prevention Day, the water is rising — and so are the risks. Unite to turn the tide! 🌊

Climate change isn’t just about hotter temperatures. It means heavier rainfall, more flash floods, rising sea levels, and longer heatwaves that push more people into rivers, lagoons, and pools to cool off.

In coastal cities like Lagos and across Nigeria, this overlap is real: climate impacts are making everyday water hazards even more dangerous.

But drowning is preventable.

This July 25, we’re calling for action on two fronts:
1. Climate Action: Invest in flood early warning systems, drainage, and resilient communities so fewer people are forced into dangerous water.
2. Water Safety: Teach children to swim. Supervise kids around water. Learn CPR. Don’t walk, swim, or drive through floodwater. Install barriers around wells and pools.

Anyone can drown. But no one should.
When we protect our climate, we protect lives. When we teach water safety, we save lives.

Let’s act before the next flood. Let’s act before the next tragedy. Tag someone who needs to see this.
