🚨 Borno Police Explain Arrest of Five Youths Wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-Shirts

The Borno State Police Command has explained that the arrest and prosecution of five youths in Maiduguri who were found wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go” was not based solely on the political message on their clothing.

According to the Police Command, the suspects were allegedly found in possession of 15 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian h**p, 100 tablets suspected to be D5, a sh**ha pot and a pair of scissors, alongside two “Tinubu Must Go” T-shirts.

The Command said the suspects were arrested during a routine patrol around the West End Roundabout area of Maiduguri on September 25, 2026, and were subsequently charged to court over allegations including public disturbance, thuggery and possession of suspected drug substances.

The police maintained that it remains a non-partisan institution committed to due process, human rights and the rule of law, urging the public to rely on verified information while allowing the court to determine the case.

Askira, in a video shared on his verified page on Tuesday night, September 29, condemned the arrest of the youths, describing it as “shameful” and an alleged “ambush on democracy.”

The five men — Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio and Abdulhamid Mohammed — were reportedly arrested at West End Roundabout and remanded in custody after allegedly wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go.”

Askira questioned the treatment of citizens expressing political opinions, contrasting it with the government’s handling of repentant insurgents in Borno.

«“I hereby declare today, I am stepping down my One-Time President, OTP, movement. I have fully joined ‘Tinubu Must Go’. We will wear the shirt, we will sit with the shirt on, and if anyone thinks they are powerful enough, let them come and arrest us.”»

The development comes amid growing controversy over the arrest of the five youths and renewed debate over freedom of expression and political dissent in Borno State.
