Every step taken was a call for greater awareness, better care, stronger policies, and a future where no one living with sickle cell is left behind.

We’ll be joining the for the Red Umbrella Walk tomorrow morning as we raise awareness about sickle cell and the importance of knowing your genotype.

Today is World Sickle Cell Day.
Sickle cell affects an estimated 150,000 children born annually in Nigeria, representing 50% of the estimated 300,000 newborns diagnosed with it globally.
Many of these patients require regular blood transfusions to prevent serious complications. A stable and diverse blood supply is crucial for these patients.

As we count down to World Sickle Cell Day, we’re looking back a decade at a special TV interview where our Founder and Program Manager, Oleka Agbai shared their personal experiences living with sickle cell —the challenges, the resilience, and the hope that continues to drive what we do.

It’s a needle — of course it hurts. But only for a second.
That giant needle may look intimidating, but the discomfort is brief. Once it’s in, the pain is gone. It’s not going to hurt throughout the donation process — and knowing you’re saving lives, makes it priceless.
We work with skilled phlebotomists to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
A few seconds of courage can mean a lifetime for someone else. ❤️🩸
