“Use your votes to f¡ght against Peter Obi in 2027, he wants our votes but he doesn’t like us” – David Umahi tells Ebonyi voters
Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, has urged the people of Ebonyi State not to support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, in the 2027 election.
Umahi made the call while questioning Obi’s relationship with Ebonyi people and arguing that the state should not be expected to support him simply because he is from the South-East.
According to Umahi, Ebonyians are “not second-class citizens in Igbo land” and have the right to decide what they believe is best for their people.
He challenged Peter Obi to mention at least one Ebonyi indigene he appointed while serving as governor of Anambra State, arguing that South-East solidarity should not only be invoked when votes are needed.
Umahi also referenced the removal of Abakaliki Street in Awka, alleging that Obi did not speak up about the matter at the time.
He said:
“Peter Obi should mention one Ebonyi person that he gave an appointment to when he was governor of Anambra. It’s only when it comes to votes that they say we Ebonyi people are one with other states in the South-East. But when it comes to insulting us, they insult us.
“Because we say we won’t vote for him and we tell our people not to vote for him, you’re insulting us? We’re not second-class citizens in Igbo land. We have a right to decide what will be good for our people.”
Umahi further accused Obi and his supporters of treating Ebonyians as though their political decisions should automatically align with the rest of the South-East.
He said Ebonyi people would use their votes to respond to what he described as insults directed at them.
“Use your votes to fight against Peter Obi. They are enemies of Ndi Ebonyi; they don’t love us. They treat us as second-class citizens. When they need our support, they remember that we are one, but after that, they continue to treat us like second-class citizens.
“When Abakaliki Street was removed in Awka, he didn’t say anything. Now, he wants our votes.
“We will use our votes to respond to the insults they have been giving us as Ndi Ebonyi. We are going to vote against Peter here in Ebonyi.”

“Atiku lectured me on why subsidy should be removed, now he want to restore it” – Oshiomhole while campaigning for Tinubu’s reelection
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and former Edo State governor, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his promise to restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Atiku, who is now the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has repeatedly said he would restore what he describes as a targeted subsidy to reduce the burden of high fuel and transportation costs on Nigerians. He has also questioned what happened to the savings generated from the removal of the subsidy.
Reacting to Atiku’s position during an interview with TVC, Oshiomhole recalled his interactions with Atiku when he was serving as NLC president, saying the former vice president had personally explained to him why petroleum subsidy needed to be removed.
“Atiku Abubakar himself, in his quiet moment, will laugh at himself. Don’t forget, I was the president of the NLC, and as vice president, Atiku lectured me about the waste of petroleum subsidy and why it is necessary to remove it, except that I disagree with them,” Oshiomhole said.
The senator also questioned Atiku’s position on the ownership and regulation of the country’s petroleum industry, recalling what he described as the former vice president’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign.
“Remember, Atiku is on record, just in 2023, as saying that he will privatise NNPC. You don’t have that tape? He even added that even if they kill him. I don’t know why he needs to die because he wants to privatise NNPC,” Oshiomhole said.
He then questioned how the government could privatise the national oil company while continuing to determine the price at which petroleum products sold by private owners.
“So can you privatise something in private hands, and yet dictate to the new owner how to sell the product that he produces?” he asked.
The subsidy debate remains one of the major economic policy issues likely to feature prominently in the 2027 election campaign.

“Only the corps3 will be quiet when Obi and Kwankwaso start campaigning” – Babachir Lawal reveals advice he gave NDC presidential ticket
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has spoken about the expected campaign activities of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lawal said he had previously sat down with Obi and Kwankwaso and advised them to focus their campaign messages more on concrete development issues rather than simply relying on the size and excitement of their crowds.
According to him, he told the two politicians that when they go to meet their supporters, they should use the opportunity to explain how they intend to address some of the country’s major challenges.
“I sat down with Obi and Kwankwaso and told them that when they go to meet their crowds, they don’t sell much,” Lawal said.
He went on to describe the atmosphere at Kwankwaso’s political gatherings, saying: “Kwankwaso just gathers millions of red caps. They dance, sing, and he waves his hands. I don’t hear anything.”
Lawal also spoke about Obi’s popularity at public events, particularly church gatherings.
According to him, Obi can attract so much attention when he appears at a church funeral that the crowd may become more focused on him than the original purpose of the gathering.
“Peter Obi does the same thing. He goes to a church funeral and waits until the church is full, and then he walks in and disrupts everything, and even the priest will be shouting, ‘Obi, Obi.’ Only the co**se will still be quiet,” he said.
Despite his comments about their campaign style, Lawal said he had advised Obi and Kwankwaso to place greater emphasis on specific development projects, particularly those that could have a direct impact on the lives of Nigerians.
He said issues such as the rehabilitation of dams in Northern Nigeria, the development of the Kolmani River oil field in Bauchi State, and the possibility of using the oil resources to support the establishment of a refinery should form part of their discussions with Nigerians.
He also mentioned the Mambilla Hydropower Project, stressing the importance of discussing major infrastructure projects that could help address Nigeria’s energy and economic challenges.
The former SGF has remained a prominent supporter of Obi in Nigerian opposition politics, having previously backed him during the 2023 presidential election.

“I never knew Peter Obi was a good man; I used to criticize him” – El-Rufai’s Son says former Anambra governor kept checking on their family despite his past criticism
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed appreciation to NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi for consistently checking on his family during his father’s detention.
Bello said Obi had repeatedly reached out to ask about his father’s condition and the family’s welfare.
Speaking about the gesture, Bello said: “I want to personally thank His Excellency, Peter Obi. He kept checking up on us. This is someone I used to criticise in the past.”
Bello also disclosed that other prominent politicians, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, had contacted him to ask about his father.
Peter Obi has in recent days publicly called for due process in the case involving Nasir El-Rufai, arguing that any allegations against the former governor should be properly established through the courts.

“I know where Tinubu is, he’s in the hospital” – Sowore reveals, demands impeachment proceeding
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has intensified his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prolonged absence from Nigeria, claiming that he knows the President’s whereabouts and alleging that Tinubu is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
Speaking to journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, September 28, Sowore said his party had decided to take legal action over the President’s continued absence and would ask the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against him.
“I know where he is. He’s in the hospital. So, I guess when he is discharged, he will return,” Sowore said.
He further disclosed that the AAC was preparing to file a case at the Federal High Court, while also calling on the National Assembly to begin proceedings against the President.
Sowore’s comments come amid growing political debate over Tinubu’s prolonged stay outside Nigeria. The Presidency has maintained that the President is on an extended leave in Europe while continuing to perform his official duties remotely, and reports indicate that he is expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29.
Sowore, however, disputes the official explanation for Tinubu’s absence and has repeatedly alleged that the President is receiving medical treatment abroad. He previously claimed that Tinubu was receiving treatment in France, a claim that was not independently established by the reports reviewed.

“The Igbo will become president, but not this time and not Peter Obi” – Dave Umahi
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has reportedly said that an Igbo person will become President of Nigeria someday, but argued that he does not believe the time is now or that Peter Obi will be the person to achieve it.
According to the statement attributed to him, the current presidency belongs to President Bola Tinubu and the Yoruba, suggesting that the Igbo should wait for another opportunity to produce the nation’s president.
