CHAPTER 54: {Auntie Mel}
…………………………………………………………………..
***
Chloe stood rooted to the spot, her fingers curling into her palm as she stared at Royal. His expression gave her nothing no confusion, no hesitation—just a calm certainty that unsettled her far more than anger ever could.
“What do you mean your child?” she asked, lifting her chin, forcing confidence into her voice.
Royal’s lips twitched, not quite a smile. “I know exactly what you’re trying to do, Chloe,” he said quietly. “But I’m not that boy you manipulated years ago.”
“I don’t know what nonsense you’re talking about,” she snapped. “And he isn’t your child. We slept together once—once.”
Her words were sharp, defensive. She had expected shock. Denial. Maybe even panic. Not this.
Royal’s gaze hardened. “Once is more than enough to make a baby.” He stepped closer, his voice dropping. “And I will claim him. You will never see him again.”
Chloe’s breath caught, but she quickly masked it with a scoff. “You have no proof he’s yours.”
“I do.”
She laughed nervously. “He has no resemblance to you.”
“He has the same birthmark behind his ear that I do.”
Her smile faltered just for a second before she recovered. “That proves nothing. Anyone can have a similar birthmark.”
Royal studied her for a long moment, then nodded slowly. “I knew you’d say that.”
Without another word, he turned and walked toward his car. Chloe watched him warily, her heart pounding as he returned moments later with a large bundle of roses hidden behind his back.
Before she could react, he shoved them toward Rocky’s face.
“What the hell—?” Chloe shrieked, snatching the flowers and flinging them aside. “Come on, baby, let’s go.”
She grabbed Rocky’s hand and tugged, but he didn’t move.
“Rocky?” Her voice wavered.
She looked down and her stomach dropped.
His lips were swelling. Red blotches spread rapidly across his neck and arms. His breathing turned shallow, uneven.
“Oh my God,” Chloe whispered, panic flooding her chest. “No, no, no…” She frantically searched her bag. “I—I didn’t pack your meds.”
Before she could move, Royal stepped forward. He crouched, calm and precise, pulling out a small pill. He placed it gently in Rocky’s mouth and guided him to swallow.
Within seconds, the wheezing eased. The redness began to fade.
Chloe stared in shock.
“Only one percent of people in LA are allergic to roses,” Royal said evenly. “My family is one of them.”
“You’re mistaken,” she said weakly.
Royal didn’t respond. He simply bent down and lifted Rocky into his arms with practiced ease.
“You’ll hear from my lawyer,” he said, dropping a thick file onto the pavement.
Chloe lunged forward, blocking his path. “You can’t take him!”
“I can,” Royal replied coldly. “And I will make sure you never see him again.”
“I’ll sue you for kidnapping!” she screamed.
Royal stopped. His eyes met hers dark, knowing. “Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.”
The words hit like a slap.
Her mind raced, flashing through every secret, every thing she had forced him to do years ago. Did he keep evidence? Fear coiled in her chest.
“You won’t get away with this!” she yelled.
“I will.”
He placed Rocky gently into the backseat.
“Why did you take me from my mom?” Rocky asked softly, his voice still weak.
Royal brushed a hand over the boy’s hair. “You’ll understand soon, son. For now, we need to get you proper medication.”
He gestured to the faint red spots still visible on Rocky’s skin. The boy nodded, strangely calm comforted by a man he’d only just met.
Royal got into the car and drove away.
Chloe stood frozen, fists clenched at her sides, watching the taillights disappear—knowing her carefully built world had just begun to crack.

At Saint Jose Hospital
Liana slept peacefully, her tiny body curled on Mel’s legs, one chubby hand fi**ed into the fabric of Mel’s skirt. Each soft breath rose and fell steadily, warm and trusting. Mel barely moved, afraid that even the smallest shift might wake her.
She looked down at the little girl, her lips unconsciously lifting into a soft smile.
“So this is what love looks like,” she thought fondly.
Her gaze drifted toward Liam on the hospital bed—machines humming quietly beside him, his chest rising beneath the thin blanket. Alive.
“I can’t believe those two are getting back together after all these years,” Mel murmured inwardly. “After everything…”
So much had happened in one month—too much.
“I’m never traveling again,” she whispered to herself, nodding firmly. “Ever.”
The door suddenly creaked open.
Mel looked up.
Mia stepped inside.
Her eyes went straight to Liam, scanning him with practiced eyes checking his face, his chest, the machines before relief loosened her shoulders. Then her gaze darted around the room, restless, searching.
Until it landed on Mel who sat at the far end of the room.
And Liana.
Mia froze.
“Um… hi,” she said softly, unsure, hovering by the door like she didn’t quite belong there.
Mel stared at her for a long second.
Then—
“Don’t ‘hi’ me,” Mel snapped.
Mia flinched.
“I’m angry. I’m sad. And I feel completely betrayed,” Mel continued, her voice shaking as years of buried emotions surged up all at once. “You left without a word. You disappeared. No calls. No explanation. For years.”
Mia swallowed. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “Everything happened too fast. I didn’t know how to fix it once it all fell apart.”
Mel exhaled sharply, then shook her head.
“If Liam can forgive you,” she said, voice softening, “then it means you must have had a damn good reason.” Her eyes dropped back to Liana, warmth flooding her expression. “And honestly… you brought this bundle of joy into our lives.”
She smiled, brushing Liana’s hair with her fingers.
“That alone earns you forgiveness.”
Mia blinked rapidly, emotion threatening to spill—
when a small voice cut in.
“Mom, where’s Liana?” Lima asked, standing just behind her. “She took my game pad.”
Mia turned instantly. “Hey,” she said, crouching to his level. “You’re supposed to be resting. Why are you out here?”
“I’m tired of sleeping,” Lima said with a sigh that sounded far too grown for his age. “I just want to play.”
Mia smiled softly and brushed his hair back. “She’s asleep right now. We’ll get it when she wakes up, okay?”
Lima groaned dramatically. “Ahh, that brat.”
“Hey,” Mia warned gently. “Don’t call your sister that. Come say hi to your aunty Mel.”
Mel raised a brow. “I was wondering when you’d finally introduce me.”
She shifted slightly but didn’t stand, Liana still asleep on her legs.
Lima walked in slowly, then waved.
“Hi, Aunty Mel.”
His smile broke wide, deep dimples forming on both cheeks.
Mel’s heart melted.
“Oh my word,” she breathed. “That’s it. Whatever anger I had left? Gone.” She stretched her arms out. “Completely forgiven.”
Lima stepped into her embrace easily, laughing as she squeezed him and gently pinched his cheeks.
“He is ridiculously handsome,” Mel said, shaking her head as he giggled.
Mia finally relaxed enough to sit beside her.
“You really don’t want to know why I left?” she asked quietly.
Mel shook her head. “I know you wouldn’t leave without a reason. But now that you’re back? I don’t care about the past. I just want to spend every day with these cuties.”
Mia smiled, eyes glossy.
“Alright,” she said, standing. “I need to take Lima back to his room. He needs to rest.”
Mel’s smile faltered instantly. “Why?” Panic crept into her voice. “What’s wrong with him?”
Mia turned, calm but honest. “He needs a bone marrow transplant. Liam will be his donor. You don’t need to worry.”
Mel exhaled slowly. “Okay,” she said, nodding, though fear still lingered in her eyes.
Mia walked out the door with Lima beside her.
She continued stroking Liana’s hair, grounding herself in the softness.
Then—
Riiing.
Her phone buzzed.
“Someone can’t let me have peace,” Mel muttered, reaching for it.
Unknown number.
She frowned. “Probably a new client.”
“Hello?” she answered.
“Hi, little bird.”
Her blood went cold.
A shiver raced down her spine.
“How does he have my number?”
“You’re probably wondering how I got it,” Raymon said smoothly—like he was standing right beside her.
Mel clenched her jaw. “So? Would you answer if I asked?”
“Hmm,” he mused. Silence stretched. Seconds ticked by.
“Hello?” Mel snapped.
“Oh. I’m done thinking,” he said lightly. “And no—I won’t tell you.”
“If you have nothing else to say, I’m hanging up.”
“Not so fast, little bird,” Raymon said. “I have your ID.”
Mel stiffened. “Fine. Send it to me. I’ll drop a location.”
“You owe me an apology,” he added smugly. “And a thank you.”
“Oh please,” Mel scoffed. “Not this again.”
“I just sent you an address,” Raymon said. “Meet me there.”
Her eyes widened. “Are you serious right now?”
“As serious as a heart attack,” he replied. “See you soon.”
The call clicked off.
“Asswipe,” Mel muttered.
“I heard that.”
Her breath hitched.
“Sh*t,” she hissed, ending the call immediately.

CHAPTER 53: {Karma closing in}
…………………………………………………………………..
***
Mel stepped off the plane, the cool rush of airport air hitting her face as she tightened her grip on the handle of her suitcase. The wheels rattled loudly behind her as she moved with purpose, heels clicking against the polished floor.
“I can’t believe that insane brother of mine,” she muttered under her breath, already pulling her phone from her bag. Her thumb flew across the screen as she scrolled through missed calls and messages.
“Surgery,” she scoffed, shaking her head as she walked faster toward the exit. “He goes into surgery and thinks not telling me is a good idea?”
Her jaw clenched. “I leave for one month—one month—and he decides to scare me half to death.”
Eyes still glued to her phone, she didn’t notice the steps ahead of her.
The impact was sudden.
“Ahh!” Mel yelped as her body slammed into someone solid. The phone slipped from her hand, papers spilling from her file and scattering across the floor like fallen leaves.
“Watch where you’re going,” she snapped instantly, irritation flaring as she steadied herself.
A low chuckle answered her. Warm. Annoyingly calm.
“I should be the one saying that,” the stranger said. “I just stopped you from tumbling down the stairs.”
Mel shot him an unimpressed look before crouching down. “Thanks, but no thanks. I didn’t ask for your help.”
She gathered the papers quickly, hands moving with sharp, efficient motions. A shoe appeared in her line of sight polished, expensive pinning one of the sheets to the ground.
She paused.
“You should at least say thank you,” the stranger said, stepping directly in front of her. “And maybe stop being rude.”
Mel straightened slowly.
“Jeez,” she said flatly, brushing imaginary dust from her skirt. “What are you? A child desperate for attention?”
Then she looked up again, this time staring at him.
Her breath hitched just for half a second.
The man standing before her was tall, broad-shouldered, with sharp features softened by an amused curve of his lips. His eyes held a familiar glint, something that tugged at the back of her memory.
She narrowed her eyes, studying him.
“…Are you Hayden’s brother?” she asked.
His smile widened. “Guess my kid brother’s reputation arrived before I did.” He lifted his foot off her paper and extended a hand. “Raymon.”
Mel snatched the page from the floor without taking his hand.
“Thanks for finally acting like an adult,” she said, curling her fingers into exaggerated quotation marks around the word adult.
She grabbed her suitcase and strode past him without another glance, disappearing into the flow of people heading out of the airport.
Raymon didn’t move.
He watched her retreating figure until she vanished beyond the sliding doors, a slow, intrigued smile tugging at his lips.
“Fiery,” he murmured. “I love it.”
He took a step forward then stopped.
Something crunched softly beneath his shoe.
Raymon bent down and picked it up.
An ID card.
“Mel Carter,” he read quietly, rolling the card between his fingers. His brow lifted slightly. “Lawyer.”
A low chuckle escaped him as he slipped the card into his pocket and grabbed his suitcase.
“Well,” he said, heading down the stairs, “now someone is definitely going to have to say thank you.”
The taxi door slammed shut behind her, sealing off the noise of the airport.
Mel leaned back against the seat, exhaling sharply as the car pulled away from the curb. She rested her head briefly against the window, watching the glass blur with movement.
Her mind betrayed her.
Those eyes.
That smile.
Annoyingly handsome, she admitted silently, jaw tightening as the image of Raymon’s amused expression slipped back in uninvited. The way his voice had carried confidence without effort. The kind that didn’t ask for permission.
She scoffed and shook her head once, then harder, as if physically chasing the thought away.
“No,” she muttered under her breath. “I’m done with those heartbreakers”
She straightened, smoothing her skirt, forcing her focus back where it belonged. Men like that came with complications charm wrapped around trouble. She’d learned that lesson the hard way.
The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “Destination, ma’am?”
“Saint Jose hospital,” she said immediately. Her fingers curled in her lap. “Please.”
As the taxi merged into traffic, Mel’s bravado softened. Her gaze drifted out the window, but she wasn’t seeing the city anymore.
Liam’s face replaced it.
Her chest tightened.
“Please be fine,” she prayed silently, thumb brushing over the edge of her phone. “Please… just be okay.”
She closed her eyes for a moment, breathing steadily as the taxi sped forward, carrying her closer to answers she wasn’t sure she was ready for—but desperately needed.
Minutes later.
The sharp sound of a horn cut through Mel’s light sleep.
She je**ed awake, blinking rapidly as the hospital building loomed outside the taxi window, tall and white against the morning sky.
“We are here, miss,” the driver said gently.
Mel rubbed her eyes, the remnants of sleep fading as reality rushed back in. She quickly reached into her purse, pulled out some cash, and handed it to him.
“Thanks,” she murmured.
She stepped out of the car, and before she could grab her suitcase, the driver handed it over to her.
“Your suitcase.”
Mel took it. “Thank you,” she said again, softer this time, before turning toward the entrance.
The hospital doors slid open with a quiet hiss, swallowing her whole.
She didn’t hesitate.
Dragging her suitcase behind her, Mel walked straight to the reception desk, her heartbeat quickening with every step.
“Good morning,” she greeted, forcing her voice to stay calm.
“Good morning, ma’am. How may I help you?” the receptionist replied with a polite smile.
“I’m here to see Liam Carter.”
The woman typed briefly. “Relationship?”
“Sister,” Mel answered, impatience creeping into her tone despite herself.
The receptionist glanced at the screen, then nodded. “You can go in. He’s in a private room, right wing.”
“Thank you.”
Mel turned and followed the direction given, her pace slowing as she reached the corridor. The hallway smelled of antiseptic and quiet prayers. When she finally stood in front of the door, her hand hovered over the handle.
She inhaled deeply.
Then exhaled.
“Please…be fine”
She pushed the door open gently.
The sight that met her made her breath catch.
Liam lay on the bed, propped up against pillows, eyes open and alert. A little girl sat beside him, her legs swinging as they whispered and laughed over something on a tablet between them.
He looked… good.
Too good for someone who had undergone a heart transplant barely a day ago.
Relief crashed into Mel so hard her knees nearly buckled. A wide smile spread across her face before she could stop it.
“Hey, bro,” she said softly from the doorway, lifting her hand in a small wave.
Both heads turned.
“Hey,” Liam replied, his voice calm and tired.
The little girl leaned closer to him, whispering near his ear. “Is that Mom’s best friend?”
Liam nodded, a quiet chuckle escaping him as she practically drenched his ear with saliva.
Mel walked closer. “How are you doing?”
“Not healing fast enough,” Liam said, eyes narrowing slightly.
Mel scoffed. “Not healing fast enough? You had a major heart surgery yesterday morning, and today you’re awake, chatting, and smiling. This is the fastest recovery I’ve ever seen.”
Her excitement spilled into her voice, unable to be contained.
“Still not fast enough,” Liam replied stubbornly.
Mel’s smile trembled. “I know you hate hospitals,” she said softly, “but seeing you like this—with a new heart and recovering so well—it’s the best thing that’s happened to me in months.”
Tears slid down her cheeks before she could stop them.
“Don’t cry, Auntie,” the little girl said gently. “Daddy is strong. He will be better soon.”
Mel froze.
“Auntie? Daddy?”
She slowly turned toward the girl, bending slightly to meet her curious eyes.
“Last I checked,” Mel said carefully, “you had a son who isn’t smart enough to care for anyone but himself.” She tilted her head, studying Liam. “But if you’re willing to exchange Rocky for her, I might accept.”
She smiled despite herself.
Liam exhaled. “Meet Liana,” he said quietly. “My daughter… with Mia.”
The words hit Mel like a physical blow.
She straightened abruptly. “Did I hit my head somewhere, or am I hearing things?” she asked. “How do you have a daughter with Mia when she’s been gone for five years?”
“I’ll explain everything,” Liam said, already sinking deeper into the pillows. “But for now… just meet Liana.”
Mel stared at him, then at the girl.
And then everything broke.
“Oh my goodness,” she breathed, tears returning. “I have a real niece. This must be the happiest day of my life.”
She lifted Liana gently and spun her around once, laughter spilling freely from both of them.
“Easy,” Liam warned softly. “You’ll make her dizzy.”
“Don’t worry, Daddy,” Liana laughed. “I’m a strong girl. Remember? I stayed one whole year in Mommy’s womb.”
Mel stopped spinning instantly.
“What?” she yelled.
Liam nodded weakly, eyes already fluttering shut. “I need to rest.”
“We’ll be quiet,” Mel said quickly, lowering Liana and sitting on the chair, pulling the girl onto her lap.
⸻
Somewhere in LA
Chloe had worn a path into the carpet.
She paced from the window to the bed, back to the window again, her phone clutched so tightly in her hand her knuckles had gone white. Every second that passed felt like mockery—two days. Two whole days without her mother picking a single call.
She stopped abruptly and dialed again.
It rang once.
“Hey, baby,” Kate’s voice came through, warm and casual, like the world wasn’t closing in on Chloe’s chest.
Chloe’s breath shuddered. “I’ve been calling you for two days, Mom.” Her voice cracked, anger and panic tangling together. “Two days. What happened?”
“I was on a business trip,” Kate replied quickly. “I just got into the office with your dad. What’s wrong?” Her tone shifted—sharp now, alert. She knew that sound in Chloe’s voice.
“Mia is back,” Chloe said, the words spilling out like poison. “And her son—Mom, he looks like a miniature Liam. They’re together again. After everything I did—” Her voice broke completely. “They’re fixing it.”
“Chloe,” Kate said firmly, “calm down. You have nothing to worry about. You have Rocky. Liam won’t abandon his son.”
There was a pause.
A long one.
“Rocky isn’t his son,” Chloe whispered.
The world seemed to hold its breath. Even the faint hum of the air conditioner felt too loud.
“Mom?” Chloe said when the silence stretched too long. “Mom, are you there?”
Kate exhaled slowly, the sound tight and dangerous. “What do you mean Rocky isn’t Liam’s son?”
“I never slept with Liam, he won’t touch me even after having Rocky” Chloe said, her voice barely audible now. “Rocky… Rocky is someone else’s.”
Kate exploded. “Are you a fool?” she yelled. “I thought I raised you better than this! And you didn’t think to tell me? Not once?”
“I didn’t think it would ever get this far,” Chloe said, tears streaking down her face. “I thought… I thought I could handle it.”
“Take a breath,” Kate ordered. “Does Liam know?”
“No,” Chloe replied quickly. “But Mia—she looks at Rocky like she’s counting. I think she suspects something.”
Kate didn’t hesitate. “Then we fake the paternity test.”
Chloe swallowed. “Okay,” she said, but her voice lacked conviction.
Kate heard it. “What else aren’t you telling me?” she asked, already rising from her chair—the scrape of movement echoing through the call.
Chloe hesitated, then whispered, “Rocky’s real dad is back in town. He saw us… and he asked if Rocky is his.”
“Sh*t,” Kate muttered. “Chloe, how did we end up here?” She inhaled sharply. “Pack light. Take Rocky and leave. Go to Mexico. You don’t come back until I say everything is settled.”
“Okay, Mom,” Chloe said, her voice hollow.
She ended the call and sprang into motion.
Hands shaking, she dragged a small suitcase from the closet, throwing in clothes without folding—hers, then Rocky’s. Socks, toys, anything within reach. Her heart pounded so loudly she was sure the walls could hear it.
She moved to Rocky’s room and knelt beside his bed, gently rubbing his shoulder.
“Hey, baby,” she whispered. “Wake up.”
Rocky stirred, rubbing his eyes as he sat up. “Mommy?” he mumbled. “Where are we going?”
As she helped him into his clothes, Chloe forced a smile. “Remember when I told you I’d take you on vacation during the holidays?”
His face lit up instantly. “Yes!”
“We’re going now,” she said softly.
“Yay!” Rocky shouted, bouncing on his feet. “Let’s go!”
She took his small hand in hers, suitcase in the other, and hurried down the stairs. Every step felt like borrowed time. She pulled the door open—
And froze.
A man leaned casually against a black car parked at the curb, arms folded, expression unreadable. His eyes locked onto Rocky instantly, then lifted to Chloe.
Royal straightened slowly.
“Where do you think you’re going,” he asked coldly, “with my son?”
Chloe’s grip on Rocky’s hand tightened as her breath caught in her throat.

CHAPTER 51&52: {Secrets Untold}
…………………………………………………………………..
***
Liam immediately rushed forward, stopping beside Mia as she clutched Lima tightly in her arms. Lima’s small body was frighteningly limp, his lips tinged faintly blue, his chest barely moving.
“What’s wrong with him?” Liam asked, his voice shaking, panic ripping through him as though his heart were being torn from his chest. His eyes never left the child.
Behind them, unnoticed in the chaos, Liana had already darted toward the car.
“Mom—here!”
Her small, breathless voice rang out. Liana stood there clutching a tiny medical pouch the one that always held Lima’s pills and emergency supplies.
Mia spun around instantly. She collected the bag from Liana with trembling hands, her fingers moving frantically as she rummaged through it. Her breathing was uneven, shallow, as fear threatened to cloud her judgment. Then she found it the injection.
She pulled it out, uncapped the vial, and drew the medication into the syringe with practiced urgency. Without hesitation, she rolled up Lima’s sleeve, scanning his arm until she found a vein. Her hands shook, but her aim did not.
She pierced the needle into his vein.
Everyone held their breath.
Seconds stretched painfully long, then Lima suddenly sucked in a deep, shuddering breath. His chest rose. His lashes fluttered, and slowly, his eyes opened.
Relief crashed over them all at once.
Liam, Mia, and Liana released the breaths they’d been holding, their bodies sagging with the weight of it.
“Come on, baby, we need to leave,” Mia said softly, her voice still trembling as she carefully helped Lima upright and gathered him into her arms.
They turned to go—
But Liam stepped forward, blocking their path.
“You aren’t leaving,” he said firmly, his eyes dark and sharp, “not until you explain to me why your son looks so much like me.”
Before Mia could respond, Chloe stepped between them, her tone dismissive and irritated.
“Let them go, honey. They’re just causing a nuisance.”
Liam’s jaw clenched.
“Get out of my way,” he snapped, shoving Chloe aside without hesitation.
“If you want to hear everything,” Mia said, tightening her grip around Lima, “then come with me.”
She turned and hurried out, Liana rushing after her. Liam followed immediately, his footsteps heavy and determined.
“He almost drowned your son, and you don’t even care enough to check on our son?” Chloe shouted, grabbing Liam’s arm and stopping him in his tracks.
“Rocky is fine,” Liam said coldly, yanking his arm free. “And I saw exactly what he did. Now get out of my way.”
He pushed past her and rushed after Mia.
Chloe stumbled backward, nearly losing her balance but strong hands caught her. Royal had been standing there the entire time, silent, watching.
“Is he mine?” Royal asked quietly.
Chloe turned sharply, disbelief flashing across her face. But the moment her eyes met Royal’s, her world seemed to freeze.
“You wish,” she snapped, regaining her composure almost instantly.
She turned away and hurried toward Rocky, who stood off to the side, still trembling from the shock. Grabbing his wrist, she dragged him toward the exit.
Halfway through, she spun back and yelled,
“Party over!”
Her heels clicked angrily against the floor as she stormed out of the house.
“I’m cold,” Rocky said softly, finally pulling Chloe’s attention back to him.
She looked down—and froze.
He was still in his wet swimsuit.
“I’m sorry, honey,” she said hurriedly, unlocking the car. “I’ll turn the heater on once we’re inside.”
They got into the car, and she drove off immediately.
“Where are we going?” Rocky asked, confused as the house disappeared behind them.
“We’re going to see Grandma and Grandpa,” Chloe replied stiffly. “It’s been a while.”
“But we saw them yesterday,” Rocky said quietly.
Chloe’s hands tightened around the steering wheel.
“Just stop talking,” she snapped.
Rocky nodded slowly and leaned back in his seat, falling silent as the car disappeared into the evening road.
At the Hospital
Mia parked the car hastily at the hospital entrance. Before the engine had fully gone silent, she was already out, moving to the backseat. She carefully lifted Lima into her arms, cradling him against her chest.
Liam’s car screeched to a stop beside hers.
He jumped out immediately and rushed toward them.
“Let me help you,” he said, reaching out.
“No,” Mia shook her head firmly, adjusting Lima’s weight. “You shouldn’t be carrying heavy things.”
Liam froze hands in the air.
“How is he?” Hayden asked as he dismounted his bike behind them.
“He’s holding up,” Mia replied quietly.
Without another word, Hayden stepped forward and gently took Lima from Mia’s arms. Liam stood there, watching the exchange, his chest tightening, heat rising as jealousy and frustration boiled inside him.
“I thought you had something to say,” Liam said coldly, bitterness seeping into his voice. “But it’s obvious you don’t.”
He turned to leave.
“Can you stop jumping to conclusions for once?” Mia snapped, anger flashing across her face.
Hayden glanced between them and sighed.
“I’m taking Lima inside. You two need to talk—real talk,” he said firmly. Then he looked toward the car. “Come with me, Liana.”
Liana, still seated and visibly confused, nodded slowly and climbed out. Hayden led them into the hospital, disappearing through the sliding doors.
The moment they were out of sight, Liam turned back to Mia.
“Last I checked,” he said bitterly, “you saw your boyfriend half-naked in his house and immediately jumped to conclusions—didn’t even give him a chance to explain. And now you come back and expect him to be happy?”
He let out a hollow laugh.
“I knew you didn’t do it on purpose,” Mia said, her voice quieter but firm.
“But you still left,” Liam shot back. “I got into an accident. I almost died.” His voice cracked, drained of strength. “And here you are… you’ve moved on with your life.”
Mia stared at him in disbelief, rage and pain colliding.
“You must be the dumbest fool alive to think I moved on,” she yelled, her voice echoing across the parking lot. “And the blindest man alive not to see that they are your children!”
Liam staggered back as if struck.
“But you said Liana would be four in three months,” he said slowly, confusion clouding his face.
“I had complications during the pregnancy,” Mia said, swallowing hard. “Lima was fully developed—ready to be born. But Liana wasn’t.” Her voice shook. “I had surgery. Lima was delivered early… and Liana stayed in my womb for three more months.”
Liam’s mouth fell open. He couldn’t speak.
“That still doesn’t justify you leaving without a word,” he finally said, his voice low.
“My mother and grandmother were murdered,” Mia whispered. “And Chloe is my twin.”
“What?” Liam yelled, shock written all over his face.
Mia took a deep breath and told him everything.
How her father had stolen her family heirloom an inheritance worth millions.
How he had taken her twin sister, Chloe, during childbirth and vanished.
How her mother had uncovered proof of the theft.
How, she was murdered.
And her grandmother too under the guise that it was an accident.
And finally—
“Annabel threatened me the very day I found out I was pregnant,” Mia said, her voice breaking completely.
Tears slid down her cheeks as years of pain finally spilled free.
Liam stood there, shattered finally understanding that the woman he loved had been running not from him… but from
something bigger.
“Come here, bunny,” Liam said softly, opening his arms wide. His voice cracked with emotion. “I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that alone.”
Mia didn’t hesitate. She rushed straight into his embrace—the place her heart had been searching for all these years. The moment his arms wrapped around her, something inside her finally loosened.
A smile slowly stretched across her face when he called her that—bunny.
Her pet name.
The one she thought she’d lost forever.
“You should have told me,” Liam murmured, looking down at her as he held her close. “Instead of running.”
“I was scared,” Mia admitted quietly. “And I didn’t want to risk our baby.” She paused, a sad smile touching her lips. “Turns out… there were babies.”
“It’s okay, love,” Liam said, pressing his forehead against hers. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me the most.”
Mia swallowed hard. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “It’s my fault you now need a new heart.”
Liam gently lifted her chin. “None of this is your fault.”
He took her hands and led her toward an empty hospital bench, sitting beside her without letting go.
“Now,” he said firmly, “how do we help our son?”
Mia took a deep breath. “He needs a bone marrow transplant. I’m not a match.”
“Then let’s do it,” Liam said immediately, not sparing a second’s thought.
“No,” Mia said quickly, shaking her head. “We can’t. Your heart is too weak. We need to do your heart surgery first, let you heal, and then do the bone marrow transplant.”
“That could take months,” Liam said, panic creeping into his voice. “It might be too late.”
“I’ll keep him on medication until then,” Mia replied.
Liam’s grip on her hands tightened. “How long can he last on medication?”
“A month,” Mia said softly. “At most.”
Liam stood up abruptly, anger and fear colliding inside him.
“Then we’re doing the marrow transplant now—before any fu***ng heart surgery.”
Mia rose as well, her eyes blazing.
“I won’t let you risk your life. I already lost you once—I can’t lose you again!”
“I’ll be damned if I let my son die because I’m too scared to do what any father would do,” Liam shot back, his voice thick with resolve.
Without warning, Mia grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to her height, rising onto her tiptoes. She crashed her lips against his in a deep, desperate kiss, stealing the breath from his lungs.
Liam froze for a split second—then kissed her back just as fiercely.
When she finally pulled away, she stepped back, her expression resolute.
“We will do your heart surgery,” she said firmly. “You’ll heal first. Then we perform the bone marrow extraction.”
Liam exhaled sharply. “And Lima?”
“He’ll get the transplant once you heal,” Mia replied. “Now it’s in your hands to heal faster.”
“When do we begin?” Liam asked, already resigned.
“Tomorrow,” Mia said. Then she looked at him with soft, pleading eyes. “But first, you have to let me do the surgery.”
He sighed, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“It’s not like I had a choice, bunny. I was just angry.”
Mia’s face lit up. “Is that a yes?”
“Yes,” Liam said. Then his expression darkened with promise. “And once we’re done with this… everyone involved in your mother and grandmother’s deaths will answer to me.”
He laced his fingers with hers, and together they walked back into the hospital—side by side, smiling softly at each other, united at last.
