He wants to marry me… but there’s one problem I can’t seem to ignore.

I met this man years ago when we were in school. At the time, he was dating my friend. Eventually, they broke up and went their separate ways.

About four years later, my friend got married and started her own family. Then, six years later, while I was working in another state, I unexpectedly met this same man. Coincidentally, he was also working there.

He was extremely happy to see me. We exchanged numbers, started chatting, and before long, he told me he had feelings for me. Then he went further he said he wanted to marry me.

I reminded him that he was once my friend's boyfriend. He said, “It doesn't matter. She is married with children now.”

But to me, it matters.

I can't help wondering what people will think. Will it look like there was something between us back then? Will my friend misunderstand me, even though they have been separated for years?

Now I'm confused.

Should I accept his proposal, or should I walk away and keep our relationship strictly as friendship?
