A simple landing page can be built very differently from a banking platform, marketplace or large-scale SaaS product. They may all run in a browser, but their requirements for security, reliability, scalability, data, integrations and performance can be completely different.

Think of software like construction: you don’t engineer a family home the same way you engineer a skyscraper.

Understand the complexity before you decide how to build it.

Knowing how to break down a problem, identify missing requirements, challenge assumptions and decide which solution actually makes sense is what allows you to get more from AI.

The strongest users won’t simply be the people who know the most prompts. They’ll be the people who can combine AI’s capabilities with their own reasoning.

When AI handles more of the repetitive implementation, the engineer’s role naturally shifts toward higher-level problems.

This doesn’t mean engineers stop coding. It means writing code becomes one part of a much larger engineering process.

AI can produce code that runs, but “it works” doesn’t automatically mean “it’s good.”

Generated software can still have security vulnerabilities, inefficient queries, poor architecture, incorrect assumptions or edge cases that weren’t considered. The harder the problem, the more important human review becomes.

The value isn’t just in generating code anymore. It’s in being able to understand, challenge, test and improve what was generated.

AI × SOFTWARE ENGINEERING: YOU DON’T HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BUILD
PART 3/8

One of AI’s biggest advantages for learning is that you can get help exactly when you get stuck.

Instead of stopping because you don’t understand an error, API, framework or piece of code, you can ask AI to explain it, explore the solution and continue building. This creates a different learning loop: build → get stuck → ask → understand → improve.

You still need to learn, but you no longer have to learn everything before you start.

Vibe coding is opening software development to people who previously struggled with the traditional path. You don’t necessarily have to spend years mastering syntax before you can turn an idea into something functional.

AI can explain errors, generate code, suggest solutions and help you iterate. That makes it a legitimate starting point for many people, especially those who found the learning curve of programming difficult.

The opportunity isn’t avoiding learning. It’s having a new way to learn while building.

PART 1/8

AI has dramatically reduced the time it takes to produce software, but that doesn’t mean software engineering became less demanding.

As more people can now build with AI, basic software creation is becoming less differentiated. This means engineers increasingly have to create value beyond writing code: solving harder problems, designing reliable systems, handling security, scalability, integrations and making better technical decisions.

AI lowered the barrier to building software. It also raised the bar for engineering.
