Two vegetable market kidnapping suspects nabbed in Delta, returned to Edo
…..as citizens hail Okpebholo, police

Two suspects who had been on the run over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping at the vegetable market in Benin city have been arrested in Delta State and returned to Edo State.

True crime stories learnt that the suspects were reportedly tracked down by security operatives in Delta after evading arrest during an earlier operation. They have since been transferred to Edo State for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Their arrest is being seen as a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes in Edo state.

The development also reinforce Governor Monday Okpebholo's vow to rid Edo State of criminal elements and make the state unsafe for kidnappers and other criminals.

Governor Okpebholo had repeatedly warned that those involved in criminal activities would be pursued and brought to justice regardless of where they choose to hide.

According to a member of the state oil and gas development commission Hon. Linda Omonzele, “residents are very appreciative of the efforts of the governor and security agencies which led to the arrest”.

She commended the governor and security agencies for their efforts, noting that the successful operation demonstrates that fleeing to another state is no guarantee against arrest.

She also expressed optimism on the speedy prosecution of kidnapping suspects, insisting that those found guilty should face the full weight of the law.

Two men, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, have been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ekiti State High Court after being found guilty of kidnapping Omoboade Adesina, a female staff member of the NYSC, on April 22, 2022. The pair were arrested and prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS), while a third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged due to insufficient evidence.
Delivering the judgment, Chief Judge Lekan Ogunmoye praised the DSS for proving the case beyond reasonable doubt, highlighting the identification parade and call data analysis as key evidence. The conviction adds to a series of recent courtroom victories secured by the DSS in kidnapping and terrorism-related cases.
