Kogi Pastor Arrested for Allegedly Setting Wife Ablaze During Domestic Dispute

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested Jacob Irewa, an ordained pastor and teacher, for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawо, on fire during a domestic dispute in Lokoja.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the couple’s residence in Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja.

According to the police, the dispute followed an incident in which the woman allegedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes without his permission.

Police alleged that Irewa subsequently obtained petrol from his motorcycle, poured it on his wife and set her ablaze with matches.

The suspect reportedly admitted to the act in his statement to investigators.

The victim survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital, Felele, Lokoja.

Adeleke voted at Ward 002, Unit 009, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state.

The governor arrived at the polling unit, completed the accreditation process and subsequently cast his ballot as voting continued across the state.
