It’s March!!

Happy New Month.

Last month, we celebrated love.
But in development work, love is rarely loud.

Love looks like installing solar streetlights in a camp that where it has lacked for over 10 years.

It looks like 600 kilogram of recycled plastic transformed into basic amenities and infrastructure.

Love is teaching children to assemble solar lamps, and involving youth to support installation.

At LightEd, we believe care for communities is demonstrated through durable systems.

Infrastructure can be an expression of commitment.

In Durumi IDP Camp, we didn’t just install solar lighting.

Children assembled Glow Lamps.
Youth installed recycled plastic tiles.
Women added creative artwork to the light poles.

600 kg of plastic waste was transformed into infrastructure.

More than 250 devices are now charged weekly.

Durumi IDP Camp in Abuja has existed for 11 years and is home to approximately 3,500 residents, including 1,500 children.

For years, night-time movement depended on limited lighting sources.

In 2025, we worked with the community to install 30 solar streetlights and 20 solar floodlights. We also constructed a Lighthouse Charging Station using 600kg of recycled plastic waste.

Today, more than 250 devices are charged weekly at the station.

Youth participated in tile installation. Children assembled solar lamps. Women contributed artwork to the lighting poles.

We believe infrastructure built with communities strengthens safety, communication, and resilience.

In off-grid communities, sunset changes everything.

Shops close.
Homework pauses.
Movement becomes limited.

Reliable power is not universal.
