⚡ WAEC Physics – Daily Practice Question

A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at 2 m/s² for 10 s, then travels at constant speed for a further 20 s. What is the total distance covered?

A. 300 m
B. 400 m
C. 500 m
D. 600 m

✅ DETAILED SOLUTION
Stage 1 (accelerating): u = 0, a = 2 m/s², t = 10 s
Speed reached: v = u + at = 0 + 2(10) = 20 m/s
Distance: s₁ = ut + ½at² = 0 + ½(2)(10²) = 100 m

Stage 2 (constant speed): v = 20 m/s, t = 20 s
Distance: s₂ = v × t = 20 × 20 = 400 m

Total distance = s₁ + s₂ = 100 + 400 = 500 m

✅ Answer: C (500 m)

💡 Tip: The speed reached at the end of stage 1 is the constant speed in stage 2. Forgetting stage 1 gives 400 m, a common mistake!

📘 JAMB Mathematics – Daily Practice Question

Solve for x: 2^(2x) − 5(2^x) + 4 = 0

A. x = 1 or 4
B. x = 0 or 2
C. x = 0 or 4
D. x = 1 or 2

✅ DETAILED SOLUTION
Step 1: Since 2^(2x) = (2^x)², let y = 2^x.
Step 2: The equation becomes y² − 5y + 4 = 0.
Step 3: Factorise: (y − 1)(y − 4) = 0, so y = 1 or y = 4.
Step 4: Go back to x. If 2^x = 1, then x = 0. If 2^x = 4 = 2², then x = 2.
Step 5: Check: x = 0 gives 1 − 5 + 4 = 0 ✔ and x = 2 gives 16 − 20 + 4 = 0 ✔

✅ Answer: B (x = 0 or x = 2)

💡 Tip: y = 1 or 4 are values of 2^x, not of x. Always convert back to x!
