A community cannot achieve lasting peace and development while women are excluded from the decisions that shape their lives.

Gender justice means making space for their voices, leadership, and participation.

At Global Peace Development, we remain committed to building communities where women are seen, heard, and included.

Global Peace Development (GPD), with funding support from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), brought stakeholders together in Michika and Madagali LGAs of Adamawa State for an awareness meeting ahead of the Women Peace and Mediation Platform (WOPEMP) training.

The session centred on strengthening the voice, participation, protection, and leadership of women and the girl child in conflict prevention and community peacebuilding, with stakeholders sensitised on Early Warning Early Response (EWER), inclusive access to justice, and Housing, Land and Property (HLP) disputes, and how each of these affects women and girls.

At its core was the need for safe, inclusive spaces where women and girls can speak up, take part in decisions, access justice, and contribute meaningfully to mediation and peacebuilding. It's an important step towards the upcoming WOPEMP training, which will further strengthen women's capacity to become active agents of peace and advocates for safer, more inclusive communities.

Participants committed to carrying these approaches home, supporting dialogue between farmers and host communities going forward.

The training was implemented by Global Peace Development under the L-PRES project, with funding support from the World Bank.

Through the Local Rights Programme, Global Peace Development (GPD), with funding support from ActionAid Nigeria, is training selected women representatives from target communities as peer educators.

The training focuses on women’s rights, gender equality, leadership and civic participation, while also strengthening participants’ skills in communication and facilitation. Participants are learning how to lead conversations with other women in their communities and share practical information on preventing gender-based violence, available support services and referral pathways.

The activity goes beyond training a group of women. The peer educators will serve as community-level resource persons, sharing what they learn with other women and helping create wider awareness of rights and available support.

Through the partnership with ActionAid Nigeria, GPD is supporting a community-led approach where women are equipped with knowledge and practical skills to participate, speak up and contribute to decisions affecting their communities.

Hello, September!

A new month gives us another opportunity to choose understanding over division, dialogue over conflict, and cooperation over silence. The small choices we make every day shape the kind of communities we live in.

As we step into September, what is one thing you believe your community needs more of to build lasting peace? Share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s start the month with a conversation that matters.

DAY ONE - Strengthening ADR Skills in Anyigba, Kogi State.

The L-PRES Alternative Dispute Resolution training continued in Anyigba, Kogi State, bringing together farmers, livestock producers, traditional leaders, security agencies, and community representatives for practical learning on preventing and resolving disputes.

Participants moved beyond theory and worked through scenarios drawn from real community situations. They practised mediating a dispute involving crop destruction and explored how to negotiate compensation between a farmer and livestock producer. Another exercise focused on grazing access, where participants worked through dialogue between community leaders and pastoralists to find a workable agreement.

The sessions also created room for participants to reflect on the realities of farmer-herder disputes in their communities. Discussions highlighted the importance of early intervention, open communication, and clearer agreements around farming and grazing spaces.

The training is implemented by Global Peace Development under the L-PRES project, funded by the World Bank, and continues tomorrow with more practical sessions and discussions.
