Effect of temperature on Chick's migration.

Ever noticed an unusual gathering of chicks? Then you must have been a good observant.

An unusual gathering or uneven circulation of chicks round the house or charcoal pot implies that the charcoal pot may be too cold. In this case, you need to increase the temperature to ensure uniform warmth round the house.

How about if they're far apart the charcoal pot or bulb?
You simply need to reduce the heat provided or energy supply, as the case maybe.

Next, observe for some minutes or 10 to ensure they're very comfortable.

Why does bedding material vary with age of chicks?

Beddings are substance used in covering the floor of the poultry house.

It could be Saw dust, Wood shaving, Paper, Newspaper, rice husks, corn cobs. etc.

Wood shaving and saw dust are the most commonly used bedding material because of its availability and affordability. They are also easily disposable and generally good absorbent.

However, it is advisable that wood shaving should be used for Day old Chicks[DOC]. Say, 1-2weeks. This is because they are large and cannot be easily swallowed by the young birds. Another alternative is Newspaper or paper, as the young chick does not have ability to easily swallow this.

Additionally, Saw dust, rice husks, and the likes, is very tiny, and the young chicks are capable of swallowing this easily. Hence, it's advisable to employ the use of this for Older chicks, say 3 weeks and above. This easily absorbs the liquid droppings easily.

It is worthy to note that lack of knowledge in this aspect may affect the digestive tract.
