CUTTING THREAD

Your sewing machine is cutting thread - this is a very common issue. Here are the main causes and fixes:

Check these 8 things:

1. Needle
- Is it blunt, bent, or wrong size? Change the needle.
- Is the eye rough/sharp? Use a new quality needle.
- Is it inserted correctly? Flat side to the back.

2. Thread Quality
- Old, cheap, or frayed thread breaks easily. Try a good polyester thread.

3. Upper Thread Tension
- Tension too tight = cutting. Loosen it. Set between 3-4 on most machines.

4. Thread Path
- The thread might be catching somewhere. Re-thread completely from start to finish with presser foot UP.

5. Needle Plate / Bobbin Area
- Check for burrs, scratches, or rough edges on the needle plate hole or bobbin case. Even a tiny scratch cuts thread. Smooth with fine sandpaper or change the plate.

6. Hook Timing
- If the hook is too sharp or hitting the needle, it will cut. Listen for a clanking sound. This needs a technician.

7. Wrong Needle for Fabric
- Thick fabric + small needle = thread cuts. Use a bigger needle (e.g., 16/100 or 18/110 for jeans/canvas).

8. Bobbin
- Bobbin wound too tight, or bobbin case has sharp edge? Clean lint from the bobbin area.

Do this now
1. Change to a NEW needle (correct size for your fabric)
2. Re-thread upper and lower
3. Lower your top tension to 3.5
4. Clean under bobbin case
