📍I’m genuinely confused by this decision.

I’ve watched football for years, and I can hardly remember a player receiving a yellow card for alleged simulation outside the penalty area. Usually, the referee just awards a free kick to the opposing team and play continues.

But in this case, not only was a yellow card shown for simulation, VAR was then involved and the player ended up receiving a second yellow and a red card. That sequence just doesn’t sit right with me.

Decisions like this are exactly why so many fans end up questioning the consistency of officiating, especially in games involving Argentina. Whether that’s fair or not, moments like these only fuel those debates. Football should be decided by the players, not by refereeing decisions that leave everyone scratching their heads.

📍My heart genuinely goes out to 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬❤️🖤.

Imagine being thrown into a World Cup knockout match as a substitute goalkeeper. It’s one of the toughest situations imaginable, with little time to settle before every touch carries enormous pressure. Sadly, one costly mistake ended up overshadowing everything else.

It’s the kind of moment that will stay with him for a long time, but these setbacks are often what shape a player’s character. The greatest goalkeepers in football have all endured nights they’d rather forget.

Belgium’s World Cup journey is over, but this isn’t the end of 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬’ story. I hope he returns to Old Trafford with his head held high, stronger mentally, hungrier than ever, and ready to prove exactly why 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 believed in him.

One mistake doesn’t define a goalkeeper. I’ll continue backing Lammens because I know he’s far better than what we saw in that moment, and I’m convinced he’ll bounce back stronger than ever..🤌

📍The biggest positive for England, despite an unconvincing performance, is that the main issue was tactical rather than structural. Thomas Tuchel got his approach wrong, and that was the biggest reason England looked disjointed for long spells of the match.

Ironically, that’s what should give England supporters confidence. Tuchel is one of the best tactical coaches in world football, and it’s rare to see him misjudge a game plan. England controlled possession well enough, but they were completely unprepared for Congo’s ability to play through the press, which prevented them from establishing any real control without the ball.

That lack of defensive control made the game far more chaotic than it needed to be. Against Mexico, you’d expect a very different England. Tuchel’s teams are usually among the most organized and disciplined defensively in every phase of play, so it’s difficult to imagine the same mistakes being repeated.

What’s equally important, though, is what England didn’t do. Even when things weren’t going their way, they never abandoned their structure in possession. Under Gareth Southgate, England often became frantic when games turned against them, losing their shape and making poor decisions that only made matters worse. Under Tuchel, the team remained composed, continued creating chances, and trusted the process.

In truth, England could easily have scored four or even five goals after falling behind. The volume and quality of opportunities they created showed that, despite the tactical shortcomings out of possession, their attacking framework remained intact. That’s a credit to Tuchel’s management and his ability to keep the team balanced, patient, and mentally strong in difficult moments.

His in-game adjustments ultimately changed the match. The Rice-Eze-Saka combination gave England far more control and creativity down the right, while Anthony Gordon’s introduction transformed the left flank with two outstanding assists. Add Harry Kane’s world-class finishing into the equation, and England had enough quality to complete the comeback.

It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it was a valuable reminder that even when Tuchel gets something wrong, he has both the tactical intelligence and the squad depth to correct it during the game and that’s exactly what won England the match.

🚨Manchester United were right not to pay £116m for Elliot Anderson & £300k+ p/w & they are right not to pay £85m for Mateus Fernandes & £250k p/w.

Not overpaying for players is something the club has to change. If they don't value players at that price they shouldn't & won't be bullied into paying it.

This is the correct decision, whether you want to or can swallow it or not. These are changes the club needed to make & they're correctly making them.

Fernandes isn't worth the wages when considering the club's wage structure. I understand frustration on time wasted, but I can't believe people think he's worth that.

There will be performative outrage, turbo tweeting temper tantrums. I understand frustration of the unknown now & what happens next. That's fair.

The double edged sword with these decisions is being able to pivot to alternative targets & find value in the market - the club have to prove they can do that.

📍Around 20 years ago, 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐨 made a split-second decision that changed the course of his life. Today, that same decision might just be helping keep Brazil’s 2026 World Cup dream alive. Football has a funny way of coming full circle.

As an 11-year-old, Casemiro arrived at his São Paulo academy trial as a striker. Around 300 youngsters were competing for just 50 places. When the coach asked who played up front, dozens of hands shot into the air. Casemiro quietly kept his hand down.

Moments later, the coach asked who could play as a defensive midfielder. Only a handful of boys raised their hands. Casemiro immediately put his hand up even though he had never played the position before.

The coach wasn’t convinced. He pulled Casemiro aside and reminded him that he had come to the trial as a forward. But Casemiro stood his ground, insisting he was a defensive midfielder. His confidence paid off, and he earned his place.

That bold little lie, told in just a few seconds, became the turning point of an extraordinary career. It paved the way for five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, countless other trophies, and the rise of one of the greatest defensive midfielders football has ever seen.

Fast forward to today, and Brazil are once again benefiting from that decision. Casemiro stepped up with a crucial goal to bring his country back into the game and keep their 2026 World Cup hopes alive.

It’s incredible to think that one fearless moment from a young boy chasing his dream helped shape a footballing legend. What a story. What a world.

🇧🇷❤️ 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐮𝐧𝐡𝐚 showed exactly what football is all about after Brazil’s dramatic late victory over Japan.

With emotions running high at the final whistle, Cunha made his way over to the Japan players to offer his respect and support. He spent time consoling Tanaka, who had the heartbreaking misfortune of losing possession in the build-up to Brazil’s match-winning goal. Rather than celebrating without a thought, Cunha chose compassion, reminding everyone that footballers are human first.

It’s easy to forget how cruel the game can be. One single mistake can define a match, but gestures like this prove that empathy and sportsmanship still have a place at the highest level. Cunha’s actions spoke louder than any celebration could❤️🖤.

Funny enough, this is the same Matheus Cunha some people were quick to label as arrogant, disrespectful, and full of pride. Yet time and time again, he continues to show humility, leadership, and genuine character when it matters most.

Class isn’t just about what you do with the ball, it’s about how you treat others when the final whistle blows. Cunha passed that test with flying colours. ❤️🇧🇷👏

📍I’m absolutely gutted for 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞 because injuries like this are the last thing any player deserves, but if we’re being honest, his absence should not alter 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝’𝐬 transfer strategy one bit. If anything, it should increase the urgency. The club already needed to bring in a third midfielder regardless of what happened to Ugarte, and now the need is even more obvious. There is simply no way we can head into a new season with virtually no depth in one of the most demanding areas of the pitch. Competing across multiple competitions with a paper-thin midfield is a recipe for another inconsistent campaign.

The biggest frustration is that the original plan appeared to be moving Ugarte on to create both financial flexibility and squad space for a proper midfield rebuild. That option has now disappeared. A serious injury makes a transfer virtually impossible, meaning United are left carrying a player who, despite showing flashes, hasn’t established himself the way many expected since arriving. Instead of solving the midfield issue, we’re now faced with an even bigger one, because we’ve lost a body without actually improving the quality or depth of the squad.

The response from the club has to be immediate. If Éderson is already on his way, then excellent but that cannot be where the recruitment stops. United should be accelerating negotiations for another midfielder, whether that’s 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐮𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐬 or another priority target, because the current options simply aren’t enough for the demands of an entire season. One injury should never leave a club of this size looking dangerously short in midfield.

The FIFA Club Protection Programme may help cover part of Ugarte’s wages while he’s sidelined, easing some of the financial burden, but that should never become an excuse to slow down spending or delay decisions. This is exactly the type of moment that tests whether the board is serious about building a competitive squad. They cannot allow one unfortunate injury to derail the entire summer. Show ambition, act decisively, complete the midfield overhaul, and make sure United enter next season with genuine quality and depth rather than hoping the squad somehow survives another year of being stretched to its limits.

🚨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿If you ever think you’re having a bad day or feel completely clueless, just remember this…

𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥 made the decision to take the injury-prone Reece James to the World Cup while leaving Trent Alexander-Arnold at home.

It was a huge gamble from the very beginning.

Nobody doubts Reece James’ quality when he’s fit. On his day, he’s one of the best full-backs in the world. The problem has never been his ability it’s been his availability. Over the last few seasons, injuries have consistently interrupted his career, making him one of the biggest fitness risks in English football.

Despite that, Tuchel backed him over Trent.

Fast forward to now, and England have reached the stage of the tournament where every squad decision matters the most.

What has happened?

Reece James is injured again.

Now, instead of having one of the world’s most creative and technically gifted right-backs available for the knockout rounds, England are being forced to consider alternatives like 𝐃𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧 or 𝐄𝐳𝐫𝐢 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐚 playing out of position on the right.

That’s far from ideal.

This is exactly why tournament squad planning isn’t just about selecting the most talented players it’s about balancing talent with reliability and availability. Injuries are impossible to predict with certainty, but when a player has an extensive history of recurring fitness problems, that risk has to be factored into your decision-making.

Leaving behind a player of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quality while placing so much faith in a player with Reece James’ injury record has turned into a decision that England may now regret.

Football has a funny way of exposing big calls.

Sometimes the decisions that look perfectly reasonable on paper end up being the ones that cost you when it matters most.

And right now, this one has come back to haunt England at the worst possible moment🤷‍♂️.

📍🇵🇹If Portugal are serious about winning the World Cup, they’re now just five victories away from lifting the biggest trophy in football.

It doesn’t really matter who stands in their way. If your ambition is to become world champions, you have to be prepared to beat the very best teams on the planet. There is no avoiding quality opposition at this stage of the tournament.

The group stage is over. Every nation left has earned its place in the knockout rounds, and from here on, every match is effectively a final. Champions don’t waste energy worrying about who they might face they focus on performing at the highest level and imposing their own game on whoever is in front of them.

Portugal have more than enough quality to compete with anyone. They possess experience, technical ability, and squad depth across the pitch. If they continue defending with the discipline they’ve shown for most of the tournament, while their attacking players become more clinical in front of goal, there is no reason for them to fear any opponent.

Knockout football is unforgiving. One mistake can send you home, but one moment of brilliance can keep your dream alive. That’s exactly why your biggest players have to step up when the pressure is at its highest.

Five wins. That’s all that separates Portugal from becoming World Cup champions. It won’t be an easy journey, but no team has ever won a World Cup without overcoming elite opposition Argentina’s route aside, which many would argue was considerably kinder than most.

Now the focus is entirely on Croatia.

Take care of the first obstacle, then move on to the next. One game at a time. That’s how World Cups are won.

28/06/2026

🚨Portugal’s projected route to the World Cup final after finishing second in their group,

🇭🇷 Round of 32 – Croatia
🇪🇸 Round of 16 – Spain
🇧🇪🇺🇸 Quarter-final – Belgium or USA
🇫🇷 Semi-final – France

📍As for the match itself, Portugal and Colombia both squandered enough chances to win it.

It ended 0-0, but don’t let the scoreline deceive you. This was a game packed with intensity, aggression and end-to-end football from the opening whistle.

For much of the first half, Portugal looked completely rattled. There were moments where I genuinely wondered what was happening to Roberto Martínez’s side. They seemed hesitant in possession, second-best in the duels and struggled badly to cope with Colombia’s relentless pressing and high tempo.

Defensively, Portugal lacked structure. Their shape was stretched, the organisation wasn’t there, and Colombia repeatedly found gaps to exploit, creating several high-quality opportunities that really should have resulted in goals.

To Portugal’s credit, they responded well after halftime. They recognised the spaces Colombia were leaving behind whenever they committed numbers forward and became much more dangerous in transition. While they never truly matched Colombia’s intensity, they managed the game better, looked more composed on the ball and carried a genuine threat on the counterattack.

Even so, the biggest question remains…

How did Colombia not win this football match?

They produced more than enough clear-cut chances to take all three points and will undoubtedly feel they let Portugal off the hook.

Overall, it was a fantastic game to watch, but it should also serve as a serious warning for Portugal.

The kind of intensity, aggression and coordinated pressing Colombia produced is exactly what Portugal can expect from the likes of Argentina, France and Spain in the knockout rounds.

If they continue to struggle against that level of pressure, it’s difficult to see them going all the way. There are clear lessons to take from this performance, and with the knockout stage now around the corner, they’ll need to address those issues quickly if they want to challenge for the World Cup.
