Ben Ruegg
Based out of Auckland, New Zealand, Ben Ruegg is a multi-instrumentalist who has produced and recorded bands like Channeled and Chasing Titans.
In his first EP in over 10 years, Ben takes an idea and lets it reveal itself through structure, dynamics and emotion.
“A lot of today’s music is so perfect and quantised,” Ben reflects. “What I loved the most about the albums I grew up listening to was that they are like audio photographs. Some records just captured something that, while not perfect by any means, allowed the listener to feel what the intention of the artist was. As a kid in my bedroom with an acoustic guitar, I would just play and write music that flowed from within me. I want to create moments like that again.”
These three songs on the new EP are authentic and raw. Having recently lost his father, ‘Walking in the morning’ is a meditation on finding God in all things and reminding himself about being grateful for all we have. ‘They tried’ builds with angst about how we as people are slowly losing our ability to speak out. ‘The Turn’ is a powerful song that gently builds into an emotional finale. It’s a song about how life moves so fast and yet we hardly choose to slow down and become aware of it. Keep an eye out for some dates as Ben invites other musicians to join him in bringing this new music to the stage.

What a blessing it is that I am able to work alongside such talented musicians. Thank you to everyone who came out to support St Ignatius Of Loyola Catholic College. This year we had 4 bands enter the and it’s only our 3rd year as a school.

Let’s go team. Massive news from coming soon. Honestly so excited to share what’s coming next.
Also, happy New Zealand music month. I love this song. RIP Aaron.
I was lucky enough to send him a video of myself playing this song. It was what I loved as a teenager. He saw it before he passed from this Earth and he told me how seeing it bought his joy. I explained that his song writing and dynamics on this track shaped a lot of my writing. Never underestimate NZ music.
