Good.

Green mucus means you need antibiotics—right? 🤧
Myth verdict: False.
White blood cells arrive during an immune response, and proteins within some of these cells can give mucus a yellow or green colour. Viral colds can therefore produce green mucus too.
Clinicians look at the complete pattern—not one colourful tissue:
🗓️ Symptoms lasting over 10 days without improvement
📉 Rapid or significant worsening
😣 Severe one-sided facial or dental pain
🌡️ Persistent fever or feeling very unwell
Antibiotics can be lifesaving for appropriate bacterial infections, but they don’t treat viral colds. Taking them unnecessarily can cause side effects, allergic reactions and antimicrobial resistance.
For ordinary cold symptoms:
💧 Rest and stay hydrated
🧂 Try saline spray—or use sterile, distilled or previously boiled-and-cooled water for nasal rinsing
🍯 Honey may soothe coughs in people over one year old
💊 Ask a pharmacist about suitable symptom relief
Seek urgent help for difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, blue or grey lips, severe dehydration or rapid deterioration. People at higher risk or with weakened immunity should seek advice early.
Will you judge the pattern—not just the colour?

Busy weekdays don’t automatically cancel the benefits of exercise. 👟
A 2022 study followed 350,978 adults for a median of 10.4 years. Among people completing a similar weekly amount of activity, mortality was similar whether exercise was concentrated into one or two sessions or distributed across three or more.
That’s encouraging—but it was an observational study, so it cannot prove that both patterns are identical for every outcome or every person.
Adults should generally aim for:
🚶 150–300 minutes of moderate activity weekly
🏃 Or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity
🏋️ Strengthening activity on at least two days
🪑 Less prolonged sitting whenever possible
A realistic hybrid could be 60 minutes of brisk activity on Saturday and Sunday, plus three 10-minute weekday walks.
If you’re currently inactive, build up gradually rather than launching into an all-out weekend. Stop for chest pain, faintness or severe or unusual breathlessness.
Spread it out or weekend it—what fits your life?

Going outside with wet hair gives you a cold…right? 🌧️🦠
Myth verdict: No.
A cold begins when a respiratory virus infects your upper airway. Wet hair cannot create or transmit a virus.
The nuance? Cold conditions may not be biologically irrelevant. A 2023 laboratory study using nasal cells and fresh human nasal tissue found that cooling impaired part of the nose’s antiviral response. However, the study did not test wet hair or prove that briefly stepping outside causes illness.
Dry your hair and dress warmly for comfort. For prevention, focus on what works:
🧼 Wash your hands
🪟 Improve ventilation in shared spaces
🤧 Cover coughs and sneezes
🏠 Avoid close contact while sick
💉 Keep recommended vaccines current for specific respiratory illnesses
Did your family warn you about going outside with wet hair?

Is your waist less than half your height? ❤️📏
Your waist-to-height ratio is a quick screening clue for central fat distribution—something BMI alone doesn’t show.
Calculate it using the same units:
Waist ÷ height
NICE guidance classifies:
🟢 0.40–0.49: healthy range
🟠 0.50–0.59: increased health risk
🔴 0.60+: further increased risk
For a consistent measurement, place the tape midway between your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone. Keep it level and snug, then measure after a normal breath out.
This number doesn’t diagnose disease or replace blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose checks. Use it as one piece of the bigger health picture not something to obsess over.
Would you try the half-height check?

Winter can be breathtaking—but beautiful conditions still deserve respect. ❄️🏔️
A few winter truths worth remembering:
🧥 Wet clothing accelerates heat loss—change into dry layers promptly
🔥 Keep heaters away from bedding and curtains, and never use a BBQ, charcoal grill or generator indoors
🦠 Cold air doesn’t cause a cold—respiratory viruses do
🥾 On icy surfaces, wear grippy footwear, slow down and take short steps
☀️ Protect your wellbeing with safe daylight, regular movement and meaningful connection
Know the warning signs of hypothermia: shivering, confusion, slurred speech, clumsiness and unusual drowsiness. Shivering may even lessen as hypothermia worsens.
Move to shelter, remove wet clothing, wrap in dry layers, warm the centre of the body gradually and call emergency services. Avoid direct high heat and alcohol.
Winter is there to be enjoyed—just don’t let the scenery distract you from the conditions.
What will you prepare first: warmer layers, safer heating, grippy shoes or a check-in plan?
