Libby (our resident fitness co-ordinator 😂), Lena and Lou Lou all competed in the Mount Maunganui Half Marathon this past weekend. Libby finished her 10kms in an impressive 47 minutes, Lena finished her 10kms in just under an hour with minimal training (super woman) and Lou Lou beat her time from her last 10km walk, powering through to the finish line! 🏃💪

So proud of this team, smashing goals on the books and on the pavement.

Assistant Farm & Pre-Training Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Farm & Pre-Training Manager to support the day-to-day running of our farm and pre-training operation.

Working alongside the Farm & Pre-Training Manager, you'll help oversee horse care, supervise staff, and ensure daily operations run smoothly. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working with horses and leading by example.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the daily management of the farm and pre-training operation.
* Oversee horse care, handling, and welfare.
* Supervise and support staff.
* Coordinate daily tasks and workloads.
* Monitor horse health and report concerns.
* Assist with feeding, stable routines, and farm maintenance.
* Operate farm vehicles and machinery safely.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workplace.
* Step into the manager's role during periods of leave.

About You

* Experience working with thoroughbred horses in racing, pre-training, spelling, or agistment.
* Excellent horse handling skills and knowledge of horse welfare.
* Leadership or supervisory experience.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* A positive attitude with a hands-on approach.
* Current New Zealand driver's licence (essential).
* Tractor or machinery experience is an advantage.

Farm Grounds Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Farm Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining the presentation and upkeep of the farm's grounds, lawns, gardens, and surrounding outdoor areas to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities
• Mow, edge, and maintain lawns and grassed areas.
• Carry out w**d control, spraying, and general vegetation management.
• Trim hedges, trees, and shrubs as required.
• Maintain gardens, pathways, and landscaped areas.
• Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, w**d eaters, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
• Perform routine property maintenance to ensure the farm is tidy, safe, and well presented.
• Remove rubbish and green waste from the property.
• Assist with general farm maintenance tasks as required.
• Report any maintenance or safety issues to management.

Skills and Experience
• Previous experience in grounds, property, or farm maintenance is preferred.
• Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment.
• A strong work ethic with the ability to work independently.
• Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• A full New Zealand driver's licence is preferred.

Apprentice jockey Tom Wigram had his first race day rides on June 6th at Ellerslie including Yokozuna for Social Racing. Just one month on he has already registered six wins and 12 placings under the stewardship of Byerly Park trainer Donna Logan. He has also made an impression off the track with professionalism, humility and maturity well beyond his years. We found out a bit more about Tom the person :

Biggest influence on your career : My boss Donna Logan and all the trainers and owners who support me and help me to succeed
