Need the right monitor manual? Find its model number, not just its serial number.
Look on the back or bottom edge for a label marked Model. Some monitors also show it in their own menu. The model identifies the design; the serial number identifies your individual unit.
Use the model number to check the screen's ports and supported display modes.
Top case fan: intake or exhaust?
We set the top fan in a mid-tower case as an exhaust, then as an intake. In our simulation, the intake setup slowed the air around the graphics card by 10% and around the CPU cooler by 8%, and the case pressure went from +2.4 Pa to +6.5 Pa.
The full simulator comes with Computer Info Bits Pro. One case type is free as a preview.

A long PCIe slot does not always have 16 data lanes.
A full-length slot can be wired for x16, x8, or x4. The card fitting into it does not tell you how many lanes it can use.
Before installing an add-in card, check the motherboard manual for that slot's lane count. Shape and data connection are two different checks.

On a curved monitor, a lower R number means a tighter curve.
1800R describes part of a circle with a radius of 1800 mm. A 1000R screen follows a smaller circle, so it bends more sharply.
That number describes shape, not image quality. Compare resolution, panel type, and motion performance separately. If possible, try the curve from your normal desk position before choosing.
ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX describe motherboard size and layout, not a ranking from fast to slow.
The form factor affects case fit and room for expansion slots. A smaller board can suit a smaller build, but check the exact model's connections.
Before choosing a case, match its supported motherboard sizes to your board. Then check space for the graphics card and cooler separately.
The metal top of many desktop CPUs is not the silicon chip itself.
It is a heat spreader: a lid that protects the silicon underneath and spreads heat across a larger surface for the cooler.
Think of the heat path as silicon, then metal lid, then cooler. The lid is part of that path, not just a cover to get out of the way.
Leave it in place for routine cleaning or cooler installation. Removing it is not a normal maintenance step.
Speaker plug fits, but there is no sound? Check the jack's job.
For a typical desktop stereo setup, Line Out sends audio to speakers or headphones. Line In receives sound from an outside audio source. Mic In is for a microphone.
Those jacks can look alike while doing different jobs. Read the port label and your PC's manual instead of relying on the plug fitting.

New PC build does nothing when you press the case button? One small connection is worth checking before blaming the power supply.
The case's POWER SW lead connects its button to the motherboard's front-panel header. A missing or misplaced lead can stop the button from working.
Turn off the power supply and unplug the PC before checking inside. Use the manual for your exact motherboard to find the correct pins. The diagram shows the general area, not a wiring map for every board.
This is one possible cause, not proof that the other parts are working.
An "LED monitor" is usually still an LCD monitor.
The two labels describe different jobs:
• LCD: the liquid-crystal layer controls light to form the picture.
• LED: the backlight supplies the light behind that layer.
OLED works differently: its pixels produce their own light, so it does not need a separate backlight.
When comparing monitors, check the panel technology and the backlight separately. The word LED alone does not tell you the full display type.
Eight logical processors do not necessarily mean eight physical CPU cores.
With simultaneous multithreading, one physical core can handle two software threads. Those threads share the core's resources; they are not two separate cores.
To check your Windows PC, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, then open Performance > CPU in Task Manager. Compare the Cores and Logical processors numbers.
Not every CPU supports two threads per core, so do not assume the second number should always be double.
