A Studio in the Landscape

A dedicated workspace can be more than simply a place to work from home.

This rural pavilion was designed as a studio in the landscape, creating a calm and inspiring environment for focused work while making the most of its rural setting.

The simple form, expressed LVL structure and carefully positioned openings bring together structure, natural light and views. While designed as a studio, the flexible space could also become a creative workspace, retreat or place for other activities.

The project also explores how modular and prefabricated construction can be combined with thoughtful architectural design to create a compact building that feels purposeful and connected to its surroundings.

Turning Constraints Into Opportunities

A house is shaped as much by its constraints as by its possibilities.

At this Remuera site, the existing conditions, orientation and relationship to the surrounding landscape informed a home that is carefully composed around light, outlook and privacy.

Rather than treating constraints as limitations, they became part of the architecture - shaping the way spaces connect, views are framed and the house sits within its setting.

Sometimes, it’s simply about seeing things differently.

How a Modern Intervention Can Transform a Humble Home This project extends a 1950s weatherboard house, reworking the kitchen and dining spaces to create a more generous centre for family life. A double-height dining space captures the northern aspect and sea views, while a new contemporary kitchen sits at the heart of the extension. The addition also creates a stronger architectural presence to the street, demonstrating how a contemporary intervention can give an existing home a new identity while respecting what is already there. #Architecture #ResidentialArchitecture #HouseExtension #HomeRenovation #AucklandArchitecture

Thinking about buying? See beyond the house

Architecturepublic’s Architect’s Walk-Through helps potential homeowners gain an experienced architectural perspective before they buy. With over 25 years of architectural experience, Architecturepublic helps clients recognise opportunities and possibilities that may not be immediately obvious. #AucklandArchitect #ResidentialArchitecture #AucklandHomes #HomeRenovation #ArchitecturalDesign

A work in progress — extending a 1910s villa for contemporary living. Extending and renovating an older home involves more than simply adding space. It requires understanding the character of the existing building, how it was constructed, and how new interventions can be carefully integrated. This project explores the relationship between old and new — respecting the villa’s heritage character while responding to the client’s aspirations for modern family life, improved connections between spaces, and a stronger relationship with the outdoors. A successful renovation considers not only design quality, but also buildability, construction complexity, planning controls and practical constraints. Working closely with clients, engineers and planning specialists, the design process involves navigating resource consent requirements while developing a solution that respects the existing home and supports the way people live today. Through sketches, drawings and visualisations, each stage helps refine the design to achieve the right balance: respect, restraint and harmony. #Architecture #ResidentialArchitecture #HeritageArchitecture #VillaRenovation #AucklandArchitecture Early design exploration Exploring possibilities and the relationship between existing and new. Many residential projects begin with questions of site response rather than layout.

This study explores two early-stage massing directions based on a single site:
• two new houses
• a house with a secondary dwelling

Both test how density, privacy, and outdoor space can be balanced at the outset of design.

“Simple but not ordinary.”

I haven’t shared work here for a while.

I’ve recently put together a curated residential portfolio across architecturepublic, covering renovations, extensions, new homes, and apartment projects.

I’ll start sharing selected projects and work in progress again over the coming months.
