AKO LANG BA NILALAMIG?
October 3, 2026βThe University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers absorbed their second loss of the season after being unable to generate any offensive rhythm against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons in the UAAP Season 89 Menβs Basketball Tournament earlier, at the PhilSports Arena.
UST couldnβt find its footing on the offensive end of the floor, shooting a freezing-cold 31.7% from the field and a horrendous 2-for-24 from behind the arc. Amidst the struggle, Star Big Man Collins Akowe still delivered his usual production, tallying a 19-point, 15-board double-double. Fresh off a string of brilliant outings, Forward Amiel Acido only added 11 points on a perfect 7-of-7 from the stripe to support the big manβs efforts.
The opening quarter saw the Growling Tigers jump ahead, 8-3, after an and-one conversion by Akowe and a three-point basket by Forward Koji Buenaflor. From there, it was all downhill for UST as they missed consecutive shots and committed costly turnovers. AdU took full advantage of the lapses, led by Guard Matt Erolon, to overtake UST and end the quarter ahead, 12-19.
Struggle remained the name of the game for the Growling Tigers as their offensive woes continued to haunt them in the second quarter. Soaring Falcon Guard Monty Montebon added salt to the wound, leading the offensive attack by knocking down jumpers from everywhere on the court, leaving UST with a double-digit deficit to dig out of heading into the halftime break, 23-36.
Both teams traded baskets out of the halftime break as UST attempted to chip away at the lead. Acido created opportunities by drawing fouls and converting the freebies, but the Soaring Falcons answered every threat to remain in firm control. The narrative remained the same heading into the final quarter as it looked like the rim had a lid on for UST. Meanwhile, the Erolon-Montebon two-man punch led the charge on the other side, ballooning AdUβs lead to as much as 27 points, forcing the Growling Tigers to stumble into their second loss of the season, 57-85.
Hoping to put a nightmare shooting performance and costly ex*****on errors behind them, UST will aim to recalibrate quickly, needing greater contributions from its supporting cast, stronger leadership from the main guys, and sharper play-calling from the coaching staff as the Final Four race looks tighter than ever.
The Growling Tigers will look to bounce back when they take on the National University (NU) Bulldogs on Saturday, October 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

THE LLEMIT DOES NOT EXIST
October 2, 2026βThe University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers fends off the University of the East (UE) Red Warriorsβ attempt at a late comeback for their second win of the season behind the efforts of team captain Mark Llemit, tallying a season-high 22 points and 7 rebounds, in the UAAP Season 89 Menβs Basketball Tournament, last September 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Big Man Collins Akoweβs presence on both ends of the court supported Llemitβs offensive prowess, recording a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with a dominant defensive display, tallying 6 blocks. Off the bench, Forward Amiel Acido bolstered their efforts, tallying 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
After his starring performance against the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers in their last game, Acido sparked the offensive surge early, coming off the bench, making his presence known in the opening quarter, scoring USTβs 12 out of 24 points, and closing the quarter with a 24-19 lead.
In the second quarter, the Growling Tigers showcased dominance on both sides of the floor, forcing the Red Warriors into numerous misses while charging on offense, further fueling their momentum and extending their lead to 52-33 heading into the half.
Coming off the break, the Red Warriors showed signs of life despite the huge deficit. UE Guard Mo TaΓ±edo boosted his team after scoring an and-one layup, cutting the lead down after the made free throw. The UE Guard then leads them on a 7-2 run before trading blows with the Tigers, the latter ending the quarter still in the driver's seat, 75-61.
Despite the 14-point UST lead heading into the fourth quarter, UE Guard Toper Lagat's offensive leadership and efforts led the charge as the Red Warriors went on a 12-8 run, closing the gap within six, 86-80. Llemit, on the other hand, immediately halted the bleeding after knocking down a 2-point jumpshot, extending the lead to eight, 88-80.
UE immediately retaliated behind Forward Gene Carilloβs three-pointer, trimming the lead down six, 89-83. Despite the Red Warriorsβ grit, Llemitβs brilliance prevailed, knocking down a three-pointer of his own, shutting down any UE attempts to come back. The Growling Tigers take home the victory, 98-87, improving their record to 2-1.
After escaping with a win against the UE Red Warriors, the Growling Tigers look to sustain their momentum and extend their 2-game winning streak as they take on the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons on October 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.

Not every struggle has a visible sign. Sometimes, it looks like showing up to class, laughing with friends, and saying βIβm fineβ while carrying feelings left unspoken.
This Mental Health Month, letβs listen without rushing to fix, check in without waiting for a reason, and remind each other that no one has to carry everything alone. Sometimes, a simple hug can be enough to say, youβre not alone.
Because behind every face is a story we may never fully see. Letβs choose to understand and make room for one another. ππ

Before food reaches our tables, it begins with hands that plant, tend, and harvest. This Peasant Month, we recognize the farmers and agricultural workers whose everyday labor keeps our communities fed.
Every harvest comes with its own story of patience, persistence, and hard work. Their work may not always be seen, but it is felt in every meal we share.

THOMASIAN HEIGHTS, GOLDEN FINISH π₯
September 29, 2026 β University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Engineering alumnus EJ Obiena secured the third gold medal for the Philippines in record-shattering fashion, soaring past his former record by clearing 5.91 m in the 20th Asian Games menβs pole vault competition at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, earlier today.
Obiena had already bagged gold after clearing 5.75 m, being the only vaulter to do so after Jie Yao and Chenyang Li of China tapped out at 5.70 m, and both settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Despite rainy conditions and after two failed attempts at 5.80 m, the former world No. 2 kept composure and still gunned for his own three-year-old Asian Games record, eventually breaking the 5.90 m mark he set in Hangzhou.

September 29, 2026 β UST Department of Electronics Engineering (ECE) faculty member Engr. Nikko John Leo S. Lobos, MSc, authored a research article on the energy framework for memory-dependent materials, published in The European Physical Journal Plus by Springer Nature.
Titled βEnergy, passivity, and diffusive representations in anisotropic fractional MaxwellβColeβCole media,β the study develops an energy framework for electromagnetic materials that possess anisotropy, conductivity, and fractional memory.
Further, it shows how fractional polarization is separated into two parts: stored energy and internal dissipation, which are mathematically shown to be non-negative.
The formulation derived connects the fractional initial layer, historical storage, passivity, diffusive relaxation, dispersion, absorption, and attenuation within a locally defined constitutive model.
The European Physical Journal Plus is an academic journal that features peer-reviewed research and academic studies across scientific and technical disciplines.
