Bridging classroom learning with real-world aviation practice, third-year Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) took part in the NCF Wings 2026 Laboratory Tour on March 25โ27 at Naga College Foundation.
Carrying the theme โWings in Service: A Cabin Crew Experience,โ the three-day activity formed part of their Transportation Management course under the supervision of Dr. Maria Luisa O. Sotero, aiming to expose students to the real-world demands of airline service and operations.
The said activity brought tourism students into a simulated aircraft environment where classroom discussions were translated into practical application. Inside a fully designed mock cabin, participants engaged in actual in-flight responsibilities.
The initiative highlighted the importance of integrating technical knowledge with service excellence, a core requirement in the aviation industry. Students were introduced to the discipline and precision expected of cabin crew members, as well as the need for clear communication and composure in handling various situations onboard.
By the end of the three-day activity, the 3rd-year tourism students not only gained practical skills but also developed a deeper understanding of the discipline and preparedness required in aviation. The NCF Wings 2026 Laboratory Tour served as a valuable extension of classroom learning, equipping future tourism professionals with the competencies needed in a highly service-driven industry.
Through the integration of experiential learning into its programs, CSPC reinforces the value of translating academic knowledge into practical skills, equipping students to meet the evolving demands of the tourism and aviation industries.

In a bid to strengthen global standards in tourism and hospitality education, faculty members from Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) completed a series of international immersion programs in Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, and Taiwan, gaining firsthand exposure to world-class hotel and cruise operations through the Commission on Higher Educationโs Sustainable Tourism Education Program Upgrading Project (STEP-UP).
The international engagement, conducted from January to March 2026, brought instructors from the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) programs into globally recognized learning and industry environments, where they observed professional practices, service standards, and operational systems used in the international tourism and hospitality sector.
The immersion program was made possible through STEP-UP, an initiative of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) designed to enhance the quality of tourism and hospitality education among selected state universities and colleges across the Philippines.
The program traces its beginnings to the STEP-UP Orientation Workshop held on September 21โ23, 2022, at Bayview Park Hotel in Manila, where participating institutions were introduced to the projectโs framework, objectives, and implementation strategies.
As part of the faculty development component of the program, selected instructors participated in the Hong KongโMacau Hotel Immersion and School Curriculum Encounter from January 24 to February 3, 2026. The activity was conducted in partnership with the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, widely regarded as one of the worldโs leading institutions in hospitality and tourism education.
During the immersion, CSPC faculty members visited Hotel ICON, Hong Kongโs first teaching and research hotel operated by the university. Often described as a โliving laboratory,โ the hotel integrates academic instruction with real-world hospitality operations, allowing both students and educators to observe how theoretical knowledge is translated into professional practice.
The delegation also conducted site visits in Macau, where they explored operations at internationally recognized establishments such as Marco Polo Hotel and The Peninsula Hotel. These visits introduced faculty members to emerging hospitality trends, operational strategies, and service excellence standards practiced in major global tourism destinations.
Following the Hong KongโMacau immersion, the BSTM and BSHM faculty members participated in an International Cruise Ship Immersion aboard the Costa Serena from February 25 to March 3, 2026. The training cruise traveled across Japan and Taiwan, providing participants with an in-depth view of cruise ship hospitality operations.
During the onboard training, faculty members toured the shipโs galley, where they observed the large-scale preparation of meals for thousands of passengers. They also participated in simulations of cabin housekeeping procedures and attended guest services orientations to better understand how cruise lines maintain high standards of accommodation and passenger experience.
Beyond operational exposure, the cruise also included cultural observation activities. Faculty members joined a short excursion to Miyakojima, Japan, where they witnessed how natural resources, scenic landscapes, and local culture contribute to sustainable tourism development.
Participating BSTM faculty members included Jessa C. Brioso, Rochelle M. De Villa, John Mykelle H. Lumabe, Maria Luisa O. Sotero, and Lynn C. Villar.
Representing the BSHM program were Rosalie B. Bulalacao, Maruja C. Carilo, Norel Peter M. Illo, Rosanna B. Oliveros, Mark Anthony L. Orobia, and Gilma P. Veras.
For CSPC, the global immersion is expected to translate into improved classroom instruction, enriched learning experiences, and stronger industry readiness among tourism and hospitality students.
Through the STEP-UP initiative, CSPC continues to reinforce its commitment to academic excellence, ensuring that tourism and hospitality programs remain responsive to global standards while empowering students to thrive in the evolving landscape of the international tourism and hospitality industry.
