IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Special eyeglasses discounts are also available for SICC personnel and students, with 20% discount for personnel and 30% discount for students, valid until October 22, 2026. Slots for free eyeglasses are limited and will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. For the medical check-up, individuals aged 21 years old and below, including dependents of SICC personnel, are advised to bring their parent’s PhilHealth ID and/or Member Data Record (MDR) for verification.

All students are reminded to ensure that their valid barcode is readily available upon entry to the school premises. Students without a barcode will not be permitted to enter.

SAMAL ISLAND — In an age where information travels faster than verification and where every click, post, and share can shape public opinion, the responsibility to uphold truth has never been more important.

For two days, aspiring campus journalists, student leaders, and recognized campus club/organization representatives of Samal Island City College (SICC) gathered not merely to learn how to write stories, but to understand the greater responsibility behind every headline—the pursuit of truth with integrity.

The 2026 Campus Journalism Seminar-Workshop took place on September 1-2, 2026, and was held at the SICC Auditorium. Guided by the theme "Pagsusulong ng Katotohanan at Integridad: Mapanagutang Pamamahayag sa Makabagong Panahon," seasoned media practitioners from SunStar Davao were Editor-in-Chief Miss Cristina Alvio, editor Miss Marian L. Saberon-Abalayan, and the Associate Editor and Digital Service Head Mr. Ralph Lawrence Llemit. The seminar-workshop became more than an ordinary academic activity. It became a call to action.

As SICC continues to strengthen its student organizations, publications, and leadership initiatives, the event stands as a meaningful step toward developing a new generation of communicators who understand that journalism is not simply about telling stories. It is a calling to write with purpose. A calling to report with fairness. And above all, a call to stand for truth.

The event was made successful with the active involvement of the entire SICC community headed by Dr. Jennifer Chua, Gonzaga, LPT-Acting College Administrator, the Student Affairs Unit, Ang Bangay—SICC's official school paper, and the Supreme Student Council, together with the BSTM MICE Codes 168 and 157 as the organizers, under the guidance of their instructor, Ms. Darigold J. Cadungog.

Responsible journalism is about truthful telling. Responsible journalism focuses on expressing ideas clearly rather than trying to impress the audience. In a world overflowing with information, the truth remains the most important story.
