🚨 DRONE STRIKE HITS MV STAR VENTURE IN UKRAINE 🇺🇦⚓

A civilian merchant vessel, MV Star Venture, was reportedly struck during a drone attack while in a Ukrainian port, causing serious damage to the vessel's accommodation block. Initial reports indicate that the Chief Engineer's cabin took a direct hit, raising fears that he may have been inside at the time of the explosion. Rescue and emergency response teams immediately responded as authorities worked to verify the crew's condition.

The attack comes as Russia has intensified strikes on Ukraine's Black Sea port infrastructure, where several foreign-flagged merchant ships have also been damaged in recent days. The latest wave of attacks has disrupted commercial shipping, caused fires aboard vessels, and injured crew members, highlighting the growing risks faced by innocent civilian seafarers operating in the region.

🙏 We pray for the safety of all crew members aboard MV Star Venture and all seafarers navigating conflict zones. Merchant seafarers are not combatants—they are simply doing their jobs to keep global trade moving. Stay safe, stay vigilant, and always put safety first.

🚨 One Wrong Swing Could Have Been Fatal! ⚠️

⚠️ CLOSE CALL AT THE PORT ⚠️

This video shows a stevedore in South America taking a dangerous shortcut by disembarking from a vessel using a ship's deck crane hook instead of the gangway.

What makes this even more alarming is how violently the crane hook was swinging while he was suspended in the air. One unexpected movement, loss of grip, or sudden swing could have sent him crashing onto the berth or into the water, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Fortunately, he landed safely on the berth and walked away unharmed. However, this incident serves as a powerful reminder that luck is never a safety procedure.

A crane hook is designed for cargo operations—not for transporting people. No matter how routine or harmless it may seem, taking shortcuts like this can quickly turn into a tragedy.

✅ Use the gangway whenever possible.
✅ Follow established safety procedures.
✅ Never risk your life for convenience.

Safety regulations are written in blood—many rules exist because someone was injured or killed before. Let's learn from this close call and keep safety our top priority.

What would you do if you witnessed this on your vessel?

🚨 BREAKING: FILIPINO SEAFARER DETAINED IN BRAZIL AFTER CREW MEMBER FOUND DEAD ON BOARD

A Filipino seafarer has been taken into custody by Brazilian authorities following the death of a fellow Filipino crew member aboard a tanker vessel while it was docked at the Port of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil.

According to initial reports, an alleged altercation occurred between the two crew members before one of them was later found unresponsive and declared dead. Brazil's Federal Police immediately launched an investigation, while forensic experts boarded the vessel to gather evidence and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The vessel, reported to be sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, remains under scrutiny as authorities continue their inquiry.

Incidents involving violent deaths at sea are rare but can lead to complex legal proceedings involving the port state, flag state, ship management company, and international maritime laws. The detained seafarer is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and no formal conviction has been announced at this time.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the importance of crew welfare, mental health support, stress management, and conflict resolution aboard ships, where seafarers often endure long contracts, isolation from family, and demanding working conditions.

Brazilian authorities have yet to release complete details regarding the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.

⚓ Our deepest condolences go to the family, friends, and shipmates of the deceased seafarer.

💬 Fellow seafarers, what measures do you think shipping companies should strengthen to prevent serious conflicts and violence on board?

🚨⚓ TRAGEDY AT SEA: INDIAN SEAFARER DIES ABOARD SANCTIONED TANKER STRANDED OFF OMAN

A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the maritime community after a 35-year-old Indian Second Officer, Nishanth Uirthanathan, died aboard the tanker MT Celestial Sea while the vessel remained stranded off the coast of Oman.

Reports indicate that the officer became seriously ill but was unable to receive timely medical treatment. As his condition deteriorated, the lack of immediate medical assistance reportedly contributed to his death on June 11.

What makes this tragedy even more devastating is what happened afterward. With the vessel stranded and lacking proper facilities to preserve the body, fellow crew members reportedly had to use cold water bottles in an attempt to slow the decomposition of their colleague's remains while waiting for help.

The MT Celestial Sea is among the vessels affected by international sanctions, creating significant challenges in obtaining medical evacuation and other essential support for the crew.

This incident serves as a painful reminder of the sacrifices seafarers make every day. While the world depends on global shipping, many sailors continue to face isolation, limited access to medical care, and dangerous working conditions far from home.

⚓ Rest in Peace, Second Officer Nishanth Uirthanathan.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow crew members during this difficult time.

💬 Do you think more must be done to protect seafarers' welfare and ensure timely medical assistance at sea?

🚨 Chief Engineer of MV Dali Charged Following Baltimore Bridge Disaster ⚓🚢

The Chief Engineer of the MV Dali has been charged by U.S. authorities in connection with the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on March 2024.

The accident happened when the containership MV Dali lost power and propulsion shortly before striking the bridge, causing the structure to collapse into the water. The disaster tragically resulted in the deaths of several construction workers who were repairing the bridge at the time of the incident.

According to prosecutors, the Chief Engineer allegedly failed to properly report known issues involving the vessel’s electrical and fuel systems before departure. These problems are believed to have contributed to multiple power failures onboard, which ultimately led to the loss of control of the ship.

The case highlights serious concerns in maritime safety management, particularly the importance of promptly reporting technical defects that may affect a vessel’s safe operation.

⚓ In maritime operations, silence on critical defects can lead to catastrophic consequences.

⚠️ SEAFARER ARRESTED AT NAIA OVER ALLEGED “BOMB JOKE” ⚠️

A 26-year-old Filipino seafarer bound for Butuan City was arrested at NAIA Terminal 2 after allegedly joking that his bag contained a “bomb” during boarding procedures. Airport authorities immediately activated security protocols, including K9 and bomb disposal inspections. No explosives were found.

The seafarer is now facing a possible violation of Presidential Decree No. 1727 or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.

Reminder to all seafarers and travelers:
Airports treat all bomb-related statements seriously. Even simple jokes can lead to arrest, delayed flights, missed schedules, and legal consequences.

As professionals representing the maritime industry, let us always remain disciplined, responsible, and mindful of our words—especially while traveling.
