Harrowing footage from Mailung in Nepal’s Rasuwa district captures the terrifying moment powerful floodwaters surge through the area, forcing workers to scramble for safety.

The worker who filmed the video was later rescued by helicopter, along with more than 100 others, after the floods damaged roads and bridges and cut off access to several affected areas.

The disaster began on August 26 when a sudden, debris-filled flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River system from the Tibet side, devastating parts of Rasuwa before affecting downstream districts including Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan. The flooding has swept away homes, roads and bridges and damaged hydropower and electricity infrastructure.

As of August 27, Nepal authorities had recovered 165 bodies, while 579 tourists — including 466 foreign nationals — remained unaccounted for. Rescue teams continue searching the affected areas, with helicopters being used to evacuate people trapped by the destruction.

Gilgit-Baltistan is set to auction hunting permits for 3 Astore markhors, 14 blue sheep and 100 Himalayan ibexes under the 2026–27 Trophy Hunting Programme.

Trophy hunting is a regulated system in which hunters pay for permits to hunt a limited number of designated wild animals. In GB, the programme is based on a fixed annual quota intended to control hunting and support wildlife conservation, while generating revenue for local communities and conservation efforts.

For 2026–27, the base price has been set at $200,000 for an Astore markhor, $25,000 for a blue sheep and $11,000 for a Himalayan ibex. The permits are scheduled to be auctioned in September.

The exportable quota includes four Astore markhors, but one permit was carried forward from the previous hunting season. Therefore, three new markhor permits will be auctioned this year.

A minor boy in Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, was allegedly sexually abused after reportedly being taken to a hotel by four young boys—three from Baseen and one from Hunza. According to police, the child had gone missing while heading to pick up his younger brother from school and was later traced through Safe City cameras.

The boy was reportedly recovered from the hotel, where he allegedly told authorities that he had been sexually abused over the previous day. The case has renewed concerns about child safety and sexual abuse in Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly amid other cases that have raised questions about accountability and justice.

The Raja Kashan case also remains part of this wider conversation. Raja Kashan, an 18-year-old first-year student from Yasin, went missing in Gilgit in 2025. Two suspects were reportedly arrested, while police investigated allegations of sexual assault alongside competing accounts surrounding his death.

With another alleged case now involving a minor in Hunza, these incidents are prompting renewed questions about the safety of young people in Gilgit-Baltistan, the effectiveness of investigations and whether victims and their families can receive timely justice.

The allegations in the Hunza case remain subject to investigation and due legal process.
