Design Concept | Restaurant

Located in Sassi Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, The design is rooted in the natural character of the site, where rock, water, and horizon define the experience. Rather than imposing a contrasting architectural language, we chose a material palette and massing that respond to the surrounding landscape.

The use of natural stone allows the building to visually connect with the rocky terrain, while the low horizontal volumes keep the architecture grounded and integrated with the site. Timber screens provide privacy and warmth, while large glazed openings and stepped terraces frame the water and surrounding views.

The most distinctive element, the watchtower, is inspired by the traditional watchtowers found across the Gilgit region. Reinterpreted in a contemporary form, the tower becomes a landmark for the restaurant, giving the building a strong identity and a recognizable presence within the landscape. Its elevated glazed space also creates a unique vantage point, allowing visitors to experience the surrounding mountains, water, and horizon from above.

The idea was to create contemporary architecture with a strong sense of place — where local heritage, natural materials, and the landscape come together to shape the experience.
