We pause today to mark one of the most significant days in Islamic history, 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗺-𝗲-𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘂𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗺.

In 680 CE, in the plains of 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮, 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗾, 𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙢 𝙃𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙣 (عَلَيْهِ السَلَّام), the grandson of the 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙩 𝙈𝙪𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙙 (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ), made a stand that history has never forgotten.

Surrounded by thousands. Deprived of water for three days. With only 72 loyal companions against a vast Umayyad army.

On the morning of Ashura, Imam Hussain gathered his companions and offered them the chance to leave under the cover of darkness. Every single one refused. They chose to stand with him until the very end. By afternoon, every companion had fallen. His brother 𝘼𝙗𝙗𝙖𝙨. His nephew 𝙌𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙢. His son 𝘼𝙡𝙞 𝘼𝙠𝙗𝙖𝙧. One by one, those closest to him were martyred before his eyes.

𝙄𝙢𝙖𝙢 𝙃𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙢𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛, 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙, 𝙚𝙭𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚, 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙. 𝙃𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙮𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙.

Among the most enduring images of Karbala is Imam Hussain's horse, Zuljanah, who returned to camp riderless after his martyrdom, bearing wounds of his own. Zuljanah represents unwavering loyalty and the grief of a moment that changed history forever.

𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.

It is a reminder that the most powerful act a human being can perform is to stand for what is right, even when the cost is everything.
