Gb-TOWERs | OPPO Shenzhen Headquarters

A skyscraper that looks unmistakably 21st century.

Construction continues on OPPO’s 200-metre headquarters in Shenzhen, designed by ZHA. Its fluid, highly sculptural form is already setting it apart from the conventional office towers surrounding it.

The complexity, however, comes at a price. The tower’s glazing is progressing slowly — since April, the façade appears to have advanced by only around six floors. But the important thing is that the project is moving forward.

And even at this measured pace, 2027 could finally be the year we see this extraordinary building completed.

Some architecture is worth waiting for.

🏁 GOLDBILLION | SPEED & ARCHITECTURE

Saudi Arabia is continuing construction of one of the most spectacular Formula 1 circuits ever designed — a track that literally rises above the ground.

Its most dramatic feature is already taking shape: an extraordinary corner elevated approximately 70 metres into the air. There may be little practical reason for putting a racing circuit on such monumental supports, but that is precisely the point — the structure creates a visual statement unlike anything else in Formula 1 and gives the Saudi circuit its unmistakable identity.

The completed track will feature 21 corners across a 7.7-kilometre layout, with projected top speeds exceeding 325 km/h. Here, engineering is not only about performance — it is about creating a spectacle where architecture, technology and speed meet above the landscape.

Gb-TOWERs | Dushanbe Tower

Central Asia is about to get a new vertical landmark.

Construction has officially begun on Dushanbe Tower, a 340-metre, 77-storey skyscraper planned as the centrepiece of a major new district in Tajikistan’s capital. The foundation stone was laid a few days ago, marking the start of a project expected to take around five years to complete.

But this is far more than a single tower. The 29-hectare development will include five high-rise towers, a major shopping and entertainment complex, hotels, offices, public spaces — and 42 residential buildings containing 6,160 apartments.

If completed as planned, Dushanbe Tower will become the tallest building in Central Asia — a major step for a city and a country that until now have played a relatively small role on the global skyscraper map. Tajikistan is preparing to enter a completely new vertical era.

340 metres. 77 floors. A new skyline beginning from the ground up.

The first image shows the vision. The second shows the tower today. And the third takes us back almost exactly one year — when this extraordinary climb was only beginning again.

Gb-TOWERs | Jeddah Tower

- Eight seconds to watch a year rise -

A remarkable timelapse of Jeddah Tower’s progress over the past year.

Twelve months ago, the tower was only beginning to rise again after its long pause. Today, the difference is impossible to miss — more height, more glazing, and a construction rhythm that is finally becoming consistent.

We are watching history take shape.

For the first time, humanity is building beyond the one-kilometre mark.

And 2028 is getting closer.

CITY-SYMBOL | ŞİŞLİ 34 — ISTANBUL

What if skyscrapers were no longer isolated towers, but connected pieces of an entire city in the sky?

Şişli 34 is a visionary complex in Istanbul where multiple towers are connected by spectacular skybridges at the level of the 37th floor. These elevated spaces are designed to become destinations of their own — with walking areas, cafés, relaxation zones and even a large swimming pool, creating a new layer of public life high above the city.

The idea of connecting towers with bridges and shared public spaces is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting trends in contemporary high-rise architecture. Skyscrapers are evolving beyond individual vertical objects into interconnected structures — forming entire neighbourhoods, streets and social spaces in the sky.

Welcome to the next dimension of the city.

CITY-SYMBOL | THE GARDEN AT 120

What if one of London’s best public parks was 70 metres above the street?

The Garden at 120 transforms the rooftop of an office building into a fully accessible public landscape — with trees, benches, carefully shaped greenery and panoramic views across London. And unlike many elevated attractions, there are no tickets and no advance booking: visitors can simply walk in from the street and take the city upwards.

This is one possible future of the megacity. As urban density continues to grow, public space no longer has to exist only at ground level — cities can use the third dimension to create new parks, viewpoints and places to breathe above the streets.

When industrial architecture goes vertical.

Construction is nearing completion on Gigabay, SpaceX’s enormous new Starship integration facility at Starbase, Texas. At 116 metres tall, it is a striking example of truly vertical industrial architecture — essentially a skyscraper built to assemble spacecraft.

The scale becomes particularly clear when compared with the people and vehicles at its base. Inside, Gigabay is designed to support the integration, refurbishment and processing of Starship and Super Heavy vehicles, with 24 work cells and cranes capable of lifting up to 400 US tons.

And Texas is only the beginning. Another Gigabay is already under construction in Florida, while SpaceX has recently announced an even more ambitious Starbase development in Louisiana.

The factories of the space age are starting to look like skyscrapers.

Some POWERFUL scenes from Doha.

There is something almost Blade Runner about these images — a city of monumental forms, light and atmosphere.

In the second image, Lusail Plaza Towers by Foster + Partners appear almost less like occupied buildings and more like a colossal piece of urban sculpture.

Doha knows how to make architecture feel cinematic.

Gb-TOWERs | Tokyo Torch

Tokyo is building a monster.

Rising to 385 metres, Tokyo Torch is set to become Japan’s tallest skyscraper and one of the largest high-rise buildings in the world by total floor area.

Even at its current stage, the scale is already impossible to miss. Compared with February, construction has advanced dramatically, with the tower now approaching half of its final height.

And Tokyo Torch is not only about going up. Its lower levels are designed as a major public realm, with an extensive network of pedestrian routes and greenery connecting the development around the base of the tower.

A 385-metre skyscraper is impressive anywhere.

In earthquake-prone Tokyo, building one at this scale is something else entirely.
