​I had the distinct honor of serving right alongside him during my time as the Senior Drill Sergeant for the Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP). Together, we pushed the program to achieve great things, but his impact goes so much deeper than just mission success. Serving as a Drill Sergeant, he directly transformed and positively impacted thousands of lives, shaping the future of our force with discipline and care.

This past weekend, I decided to bridge my two favorite worlds, civilian fitness and military endurance, at the Boque-Run Challenge 2026.

While most competitors lined up in standard running gear, I decided to up the ante:
🏃‍♂️ Saturday: 5K
🏃‍♂️ Sunday: 10K
🎒 The Twist: I did both races as Ruck Marches in full uniform, boots, and a weighted ruck sack.

Why do it the hard way? Because the discipline we build in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard isn't something we turn off over the weekend. It’s a lifestyle of staying physically and mentally resilient, testing our limits, and showing the community what our Soldiers are truly capable of.

The Army National Guard depends on strong leaders: its commissioned officers. Rising through the ranks, commissioned officers become managers and problem-solvers. They maintain a commitment to excellence, make critical decisions, lead every mission and guide Army Soldiers by the thousands. They take responsibility for the safety and freedom of Americans all over the world. And the place where they're made is Officer Candidate School.

Officer Candidate School (OCS) is an intense leadership training ground. It's physically and mentally challenging, and not everyone's cut out for it. But those who are accepted, and make it through, agree it's one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives. Whether you're a first-time Soldier or have prior military experience, OCS will transform you into an effective leader.

There are three options for attending OCS; State, Federal, and Accelerated. After meeting the requirements, you'll choose the best one for you based on your specific circumstances, such as work, school, or family commitments.

National Guard Soldiers who attend 11B (Infantryman) training, have the opportunity to attend the Ranger Team Leader Initiative (RTLI) program immediately after OSUT (BCT+AIT). RTLI provides Soldiers with advanced instruction on Land Navigation, Ranger Physical Assessment (RPA), Combat Water Survival Training (CWST), Ranger Technical Tasks (RTTs), and all core events needed to pass Ranger School.
