D2 Auto company car got called into action today for a bit of trailer-moving duty! It’s probably not been used for the best part of a year 😅

So naturally, it’s now getting an 8HP fitted… Still not sure whether that’s because I actually like it, or because that 4HP22 annoyed me one too many times 🤣🔧

Definitely not the cheapest evening entertainment with the price of fuel these days 🤣⛽

The interior still needs finishing off, but mechanically all done !

🇵🇹 And we got it all set up remotely this morning from Portugal!

The hard part wasn't getting an 8HP behind a Td5. It was making the Td5 and ZF think they were bolted and designed to work together.

✅ CAN-bus integration between the Td5 ECU and 8HP controller
✅ Correct engine torque data transmitted to the transmission
✅ Torque requests, torque reduction & correction maps calibrated for smooth operation and clean shifts
✅Dedicated ECU torque-scaling patch, allowing the system to correctly calculate and report higher torque values — preventing overflow and zero-torque reporting
✅ Brake switch status via CAN — no additional external wiring required
✅ Stop/hold behaviour corrected and fine-tuned
✅ selectable drive modes an manual mode
✅ Full OBD integration — access to the TCU, Td5 diagnostics and live data through the vehicle diagnostic connection
✅ Custom ECU remap matched to the vehicle’s performance upgrades, 8HP gearing, and shift strategy for seamless engine and transmission integration.

We’re taking a well-earned break and will be out of the workshop until 18th September! 😎

📦 Orders: All current orders have been processed. Our website will remain open and continue accepting new orders while we’re away, but these will be picked up and processed once we’re back.

99% ready…

26 years old, nearly half a million kms and part of the TD5inside family since new!

And now… a TD5 with an 8-speed automatic — 8HP70 supplied by ORD - OffRoad Developments ⚙️

We’ll have some nicer photos and videos done once the build is 100% complete, but we simply couldn’t wait any longer and had to share it now!

One thing we really wanted to do was leaving the engine untouched, as sort of a statement ,- we only replaced the water pump and rocker cover gasket… that was it !

Everything else was either reconditioned, replaced with brand-new genuine parts, or upgraded where it made sense.

We kept the ARB air lockers and MaxiDrive shafts that have been there for years, added a rebuilt transfer box with a limited-slip diff, AlliSport boost and coolant hoses, Pioneer 4x4 fuel and brake line kits, Allisport intercooler and gearbox cooler , CrTurbospt hybrid plus the odd nice detail here and there…

A proper rebuild with the big big help of Djauto without taking away the character and history of this specific Defender which is part of the foundation of our company and will stay here forever !
