For birders, Nyungwe is a forest worth slowing down for 🌿🦜

With over 300 recorded bird species, including many Albertine Rift endemics, Nyungwe offers some of Rwanda’s most rewarding birding experiences.

Begin above the rainforest canopy, crossing the suspension walkway before descending into the forest, where the experience continues along the trails.

And there’s much more to discover on foot, waterfalls, orchids, butterflies and 13 species of primates, including monkeys and chimpanzees.

The road doesn’t always have to be the journey.

In Uganda and Rwanda, some of the most rewarding experiences are separated by long distances. Thankfully, you don’t always have to spend hours on the road.

For gorilla trekking in Uganda, domestic flights to Kisoro or Kihihi can be a great option, followed by a comfortable transfer to your lodge and the forest.

And once you touch down at the airstrip, you’ll find our driver waiting with a big smile, ready to welcome you and continue the journey in one of our capable, comfortable 4x4 safari vehicles.

For us, seamless travel is knowing when to fly, when to drive, and how to make every transition feel effortless.

Because a well-crafted safari is not just about where you go.

It’s about how beautifully the journey comes together!

What if your safari came with a front-row seat to the wild? 🐘🐃🌿

Cruise along the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park and watch elephants, buffalo and hippos gather along the shores. What starts as a boat ride can quickly become one of the most memorable moments of your safari.

Choose a scheduled boat cruise for a shared experience, or go for a private boat cruise and enjoy the channel at your own pace, with snacks and drinks arranged on board. 🥂

The Kazinga Channel is one of those experiences that makes a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park feel complete.

Would you rather experience it from the vehicle or from the water? 👀

Would you keep walking if a buffalo was staring straight at you? 🐃

That calm, unbothered stare can be intimidating and for good reason.

The African Cape buffalo is one of the most powerful animals on the savannah. But its strength isn’t just in its size or horns. It’s in the herd.

When danger comes, especially from lions, buffaloes can stand together and form a protective circle around their calves. They stay close, defend one another and face the threat as one.

And don’t let that heavy build fool you, a buffalo can run at speeds of around 50 km/h when it needs to.

Out here, every encounter feels different. Sometimes you don’t need a lion to remind you that you’re in the wild.

Uganda and Rwanda are places where nature feels close, wild and wonderfully alive. 🌿

From mist-covered mountains and ancient forests to endless savannahs, crater lakes and quiet golden sunsets, every journey brings a new landscape to fall in love with. One moment you’re surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest, and the next you’re watching the wilderness stretch endlessly into the horizon.

Come for the landscapes. Stay for the feeling of being completely surrounded by nature.

A new week deserves a different kind of beginning.

Leave the familiar behind and follow the road beyond the ordinary, where the tracks are few, the landscapes untouched, and every turn holds the possibility of something unexpected.

Your next safari doesn’t have to be another trip.

It could be the experience you’ve been waiting for.

Go beyond the expected.

Some journeys are dreamed about for years. When you finally take them, they should feel unforgettable!

At Mist Rwanda Safaris, we take the time to understand what inspires our guests, then personally curate each journey around their interests, pace and dreams.

We believe a safari should go beyond simply ticking places off a bucket list. It should invite you to connect with the people, culture and landscapes and, for a while, feel like a local rather than a visitor.

And for our returning guests, we know one thing for certain: no two safaris should ever be the same.

Because the best journeys aren’t simply planned. They’re personal.

Some journeys are remembered for what you saw. Others for the people who made you feel at home along the way.

As we step into a new month, here’s to more journeys, more connections, and new memories waiting to be made.

Wishing you a beautiful new month filled with places worth discovering and moments worth remembering.

There’s something special about coming back to Nyungwe House after a day in the forest. 🌿

After following misty trails, listening to colobus monkeys calling from the canopy, and getting lost in the beauty of Nyungwe, returning here feels like a gentle pause in the adventure.

A warm welcome from the staff.
A quiet moment overlooking the tea fields.
The fresh mountain air.
And that feeling of simply slowing down and taking it all in.

Because sometimes, it’s not just the places you visit that stay with you. It’s how a place makes you feel.

A giraffe doesn’t need to chase the horizon. It simply rises above it.

There’s more to that height than elegance. From high above the grass, a giraffe can scan the savannah for approaching predators, often spotting danger before animals closer to the ground. In a way, it becomes the watchman of the herd, quietly keeping an eye on the landscape while others feed.

Then there’s the beauty of watching one move through the golden grass, calmly browsing on acacia leaves, its patterned coat catching the evening light.
