Layers of the Human Eye:
1. Cornea
The transparent, dome-shaped front layer of the eye.
Acts as the eye’s outermost lens, protecting the eye and focusing incoming light onto the retina.
Provides most of the eye’s refractive power.
2. Sclera
The white, opaque outer layer surrounding the eye.
Provides structural support and protection.
3. Anterior Chamber
The fluid-filled space between the cornea and the iris.
Contains aqueous humor, which nourishes the eye and maintains intraocular pressure.
4. Iris
The colored part of the eye.
Controls the size of the pupil and regulates the amount of light entering the eye.
5. Pupil
The black circular opening in the iris.
Adjusts size to control light intake.
6. Lens
Located behind the iris and pupil.
Fine-tunes focus by changing shape to project clear images onto the retina.
7. Vitreous Body
The clear, gel-like substance filling the space between the lens and retina.
Maintains the eye’s shape and allows light to pass through to the retina.
8. Retina
The innermost layer lining the back of the eye.
Contains photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) that convert light into electrical signals sent to the brain.
9. Choroid
The layer between the retina and sclera.
Contains blood vessels that nourish the eye.
10. Optic Nerve
Transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
