Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study - SCAS

‘Thermal Colonization: Energy Storage Architectures in Nunavut’ is the topic of Rafico Ruiz’s CUSP lecture at SCAS this afternoon.

Initiated by SCAS in 2021, the CUSP (Critically Urgent Societal Problems) series is an arena for addressing big societal challenges of our time: social, political, cultural, economic, environmental, and/or medical.

The lecture is also part of the workshop 'Welfare in Danger? Institutions, Infrastructures, and Environments in the Age of Risk', hosted by SCAS on 24-25 September, and co-organised by SCAS Pro Futura Scientia Fellow Jennifer Mack.

This morning, historical perspectives on current times are given by Jenny Andersson (Uppsala University) in her keynote lecture on "Neoliberalism, Social Democracy and What Comes After".

The lecture is part of the workshop "Welfare in Danger? Institutions, Infrastructures, and Environments in the Age of Risk", hosted by SCAS on 24-25 September, and co-organised by SCAS Pro Futura Scientia Fellow Jennifer Mack.

This afternoon, SCAS hosts a session of the Umeå University Research and Leadership Programme (ReaL). SCAS Principal Christina Garsten and SCAS Fellow Grace Diabah will meet with the participants to discuss different dimensions of research excellence, including its pros and cons.

After lunch, the Fellows visited the special collections of the Carolina Rediviva Library.

This morning we invited PerOla Öberg and Carl Öhman from the Department of Government at Uppsala University for a conversation with the Fellows on the upcoming Swedish parliamentary election.

At a session this morning, all Pro Futura Scientia Fellows gathered in the Thunberg Hall for lectures and discussions on research, teaching and leadership.

The afternoon is devoted to a session within the SCAS Academic Leadership Programme (SALP) for those Pro Futura Fellows participating in the second round of this tailor-made leadership course.

Congratulations to the recently admitted Pro Futura Scientia XX Fellows, who received their diplomas at a ceremony at the Collegium this afternoon.

The introduction week at SCAS continues. This morning all Fellows gathered in the Thunberg Hall for short 3 minute presentations of the research projects that they will now embark upon. The presentations make a good starting point for new discussions across the disciplines.
