SLMDA Condemns Circulation of Graphic Images of Late Dr. Adrian Hanciles

The Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) has strongly condemned the circulation of graphic images showing the body of the late Dr. Adrian Hanciles, whose death was confirmed after he went missing on September 3, 2026.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Association expressed deep concern and outrage over the publication and widespread sharing of photographs of Dr. Hanciles’ deceased body across social media and some media platforms.

According to the SLMDA, sharing such images is unethical, deeply disrespectful and a serious violation of the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of his grieving family.

The Association has therefore called for greater sensitivity and responsibility in how information and images concerning deceased persons are handled, particularly during moments of grief.

At a time when a family and colleagues are mourning the loss of a loved one, the SLMDA’s message is clear: grief deserves respect, and the dignity of the deceased must be protected.

ERNEST BAI KOROMA RETURNS HOME TO SIERRA LEONE

Former President Ernest Bai Koroma has returned to Sierra Leone after more than two years in Nigeria, bringing an end to a prolonged period away from the country.

Koroma arrived at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi on Sunday, accompanied by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

His return comes after the Government of Sierra Leone dropped treason charges against him in July. The charges were connected to the November 2023 attempted coup, allegations which the former president had denied.

Koroma, who served as Sierra Leone’s president for two terms before handing over power to President Julius Maada Bio in 2018, left the country in 2024 after being allowed to travel to Nigeria for medical treatment.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said Nigeria had worked quietly with regional stakeholders to support Koroma’s safe and dignified return, while encouraging continued dialogue among Sierra Leone’s political actors.

Speaking after his arrival, Koroma expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders for their roles in facilitating his return.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to peace, national unity and democracy, saying he would continue to offer his guidance whenever called upon.

“I thank President Bio for the role he has played in promoting unity and advancing this country.”

Koroma’s latest return is particularly significant, coming after years of political tension and legal uncertainty surrounding his departure.

He is expected to settle permanently in his hometown of Makeni, where he was welcomed by supporters and senior members of the All People’s Congress (APC).

His homecoming could mark a new chapter in Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts toward political dialogue, reconciliation and national unity.
