Today marked the first day of the IMatter webinar, with important reflections from partners representing Sudan, Myanmar and Colombia on the realities of shrinking civic space.

JDI is pleased to be part of this conversation and grateful for the opportunity to contribute. Tomorrow, the discussion continues with perspectives from Yemen and Somalia, including JDI’s contribution on reimagining civic space in Somalia.

We are excited to introduce Civic Somalia β€” a new space by JDI for Somali youth to connect, speak up and act together.

And we begin by listening.

CivicLab 01: The Conversation Starts With You brings Somali youth together to talk openly about access to civic spaces, the barriers young people face, and what needs to change.

Happy International Youth Day! 🌍

Today, we join the world in celebrating young people and the ideas, energy and contributions they bring to their communities.

At JDI, we believe young people have an important role to play in Somalia’s civic and social development. In the coming days, we will be opening conversations with Somali youth to listen, exchange ideas and better understand their perspectives on participation and the issues that matter to them.

As we mark , we look forward to making August a month of conversation, participation and new ideas.

Happy International Youth Day to young people across Somalia and around the world. πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄

Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.

It is with profound sorrow that JDI mourns the passing of Abdisamad Abdinor Mohamed, a distinguished and deeply valued member of our Advisory Board.

His passing is a profound loss to JDI and to all those whose lives he touched through his commitment to justice and public service.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
