JUST IN: Vietnamese national deported to South Sudan by the United States last year has been repatriated to his home country.

Thanh Tuan Phan left Juba through Juba International Airport this morning after spending nearly a year in South Sudan.

He was among eight men with serious criminal convictions deported to South Sudan by U.S. authorities in July 2025.

We, the undersigned family members, elders, and concerned citizens of the Late Chief Jul Machok, are writing to officially and unequivocally condemn the deceptive and opportunistic actions of some individual in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
It has come to our attention that this individual has been deliberately misrepresenting herself and discarding the truth about her marital status to falsely claim that she is the wife of the Late Chief Jul Machok. She is utilizing this fabricated narrative with the sole intention of exploiting, manipulating, and seeking financial and social benefits from Hon. Malual Tap.
We wish to state clearly and for the public record that Lady (from Rumbek East) who used to meet Hon. Malual Tap since his appointment is not recognized as, nor has she ever been the wife of the late Chief Jul Machok. Her claims are entirely fraudulent, malicious, and designed to tarnish the respected name of the late Chief’s legacy for her own selfish financial gain.
Though, Late Chief Jul Machok is Maternal Uncle to Hon. Malual Tap non of the family members has ever met him personal.
Such deceitful behaviour is a profound disrespect to the cultural values, customs, and traditional laws of our people in Lakes State. We strongly condemn her actions and warn such individuals and particularly Hon. Malual Tap to be highly vigilant and to disregard any claims or demands made by this individual again under the pretence of the fake marital connection.
We must ensure that the good name and dignity of the Late Chief Jul Machok Lieny are protected and that public figures like Hon. Malual Tap are shielded from such malicious exploitation.
