Happening Now‼️Follow-up meeting with the technical team of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government to discuss the implementation of the Enterprise Wide Geographic Information System (GIS).

We join our colleagues for this meeting which focuses on the next steps for integrating GIS across municipal operations to strengthen spatial asset mapping, data collection and sharing, the development of digital registries, and the creation of interactive web maps and applications.

The Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) held its 𝟑𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 (𝐋𝐄𝐃𝐏𝐀𝐂) 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 on Tuesday 15th September 2026.

LEDPAC brings together 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒎, 𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒈𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, providing valuable insight and guidance to the Corporation in advancing its Local Economic Development (LED) Strategy.

During the meeting, members reviewed the current status of several ongoing LED projects and discussed upcoming initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for entrepreneurship, tourism, community development and economic activity throughout the region.

As part of the meeting, LEDPAC members toured the Railway Strip in Couva, receiving a 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧, LEDPAC Member and representative of the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐨.

Vice Chairman Henry Awong provided 𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 into a vibrant community and economic space.

The 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 includes the development of:
✨ Pedestrian pavements and paver walkways
✨ Benches and solar lighting
✨ Spaces for vending and entrepreneurship
✨ Areas for music and entertainment
✨ Improved recreational and community spaces
✨ A heritage-focused environment celebrating Couva’s railway history

The Corporation has also approached our Line Ministry with a request to 𝒂𝒄𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒗𝒂 𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈, with the aim of incorporating this important heritage asset into the broader redevelopment vision.

In another exciting step towards bringing the railway heritage of Couva to life, CTTRC has approached Caroni (1975) Limited regarding the 𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 to complement the development and create a significant heritage feature within the Railway Strip.

The proposed redevelopment represents an opportunity to preserve our heritage, support local businesses, create spaces for community activity and strengthen Couva as a destination for residents and visitors alike.

Through LEDPAC and continued collaboration with stakeholders, CTTRC remains committed to turning local potential into meaningful economic opportunities for our communities.

This morning, the CTTRC Local Economic Development Unit joined our Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Simone Huggins, along with other Heads of Departments and Sections, for an insightful presentation on “𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐈𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.”

🌎The presentation explored the development of an Enterprise Wide Geographic Information System (GIS) integrating all 14 Municipal Corporations to support spatial asset mapping, registry development, data collection and sharing, and the creation of interactive web maps and applications.
