“The rhinoceros does exist, and then take pleasure in the fact that he looks as if he doesn’t.”
- G. K. Chesterton, quoted by Alan Watts
There is something extraordinary about the fact that an animal so strange-looking could ever have existed at all.
The rhino looks almost imagined: prehistoric, armored, impossibly solid, with a horn that seems to belong to a creature from another world. And yet, it is real. It walks through the grasslands of Africa, raises its young, searches for food, and lives alongside countless other species.
Perhaps that is part of what makes encountering wildlife so powerful. The natural world is far stranger, more beautiful, and more improbable than anything we could invent.
On World Rhino Day, we celebrate one of the world’s most extraordinary animals. 🦏

Brothers in the bush. 🦁 Male lions are often seen as solitary, but coalitions of 2 to 4 males, sometimes brothers, sometimes unrelated, will team up for years. Sharing a kill like this strengthens the bond that helps them hold territory against rival males.

Bath time. 🐘💦 Mud isn’t just for fun. It works as natural sunscreen and helps elephants scrape off ticks and other parasites once it dries and flakes off. This little one’s getting the full spa treatment, aunties included.
Another unforgettable crew through Ngorongoro Crater. 🌍🦓🦏 Loved guiding them through one of the most incredible landscapes on earth. Thank you for the trust and the laughs along the way.

Vantage point secured. 🐆 Cheetahs use termite mounds and other high points as natural watchtowers. With eyesight that can spot prey up to 5 km away, that extra few feet of elevation makes a huge difference on the flat savanna.
