With the release of - I got to thinking about how important sound and music are to my experience of action, adventure and horror games alike. It’s the doorway into the world of the game in question - at least for me.

All the way back in 2002, was serving fantasy escapism like never before. So much of it came down to how well the sound effects were integrated into the gameplay and score. This is really the blossoming of design seeds planted by the legendary and the underrated “The World is Not Enough” on the N64.

So much was done right in the GameCube era. Video game artists and developers are still doing great work today, of course. I just think we ought to give the early 00’s philosophy of gaming another look. There was so much that was fresh at the time.

Long-standing franchise entires, I humbly suggest, are still in conversation with the great games that came out around that time. How many remakes have we gotten of games from that era by now? “Nightfire” was also a big part of the “Melee,” “Sonic Adventure 2,” “Soul Calibur 2,” “Double Dash” rotation, and the music in all those games was crucial to an aspect of our “fun factor.” There’s just nothing like getting a few friends together in real life for a round or two of a great game, and “Nightfire” will always be in my heart for facilitating those memories.
