Lets talk about GI stasis...

GI stasis is one of the most feared conditions in the rabbit world, and one of the most misunderstood. 🐇

Here is something really important that often gets overlooked: GI stasis is not a disease or a disorder. It is a secondary response, a symptom of something else happening in your rabbit's body. When a rabbit experiences pain, stress, illness, or discomfort, their digestive system slows down or stops as a result.

This distinction matters enormously. Treating the stasis without identifying and addressing the underlying cause is like treating a fever without looking for the infection. Finding the root cause is what leads to real recovery.

Common underlying triggers include pain from any source, including dental disease, stress, environmental changes, gas, dehydration, insufficient diet, and underlying illness.

The rabbit's digestive system is incredibly sensitive and finely tuned. Keeping it healthy through diet, hydration, enrichment, and attentive care is one of the most important things we can do for our rabbits every day.
