Why do I love design?

You make things pretty and organized AND do so with purpose.

You create a visual identity.
You help people connect.
You direct people's attention.

It's very people-oriented.

Not only are people part of the end result, they are a part of the process. Clients give their feedback, and I really enjoy having the challenge to refine work to someone else's request. It creates projects I would have never thought of on my own.

Moodboard Monday
Fall (or Autumn) is upon us!
I really love the picture with the cozy blankets on the top left. What stands out to you?

With the last moodboard, I allowed myself time to refine the final project. I will continue that by creating a new moodboard every 2 weeks or so instead of weekly.

I (Carlee) was only 4 years old when this happened. I don't remember it visually, but I do have memories of conversations over the years stored up.

I want to honor, in what ways I can, those who died, those who sacrificed, and those who have been directly affected.

A closer look at some of the patterns used in the project posted Tuesday.

The honeycombs are simple, geometric shapes. The bees and dotted lines are more artistic. I love combing these two types of elements!

I also really enjoy bringing my artistic side into graphic design projects, merging the art with the design.

Sketch Day! Here are the refined designs from last Sketch Day.

One inspiration for this was from a designer on Instagram who uses Adobe Illustrator tools in a very artistic way for packaging and surface designs.

Another inspiration was an article I read on LinkedIn about not having to design logos with obvious cues (in his case, not using camera lenses and film strips in a logo for a filming company). Clearly, I have obvious cues with the bee, flower, and honeycomb, but what I took from this article was approaching design in a more creative way. In this case, the use of color and texture you don't typically associate with bees and honey.

I love using color and texture in what I do. What are your thoughts? Would you prefer a more traditional design or do you think the color and texture are fun?

This artwork is quite large compared to previous works. The confidence you see here is not always the confidence when creating. I created many sketches and even a couple smaller, less-detailed versions to get the layout, sizing, and techniques down.

I did have a little helper, as you can see behind the painting. 😸

What a painting! It looks good, but the story behind it really knocks it out of the park. I LOVE creating commission pieces. They hold so much story and connection. I enjoy talking about the places, the emotions, and the stories just as much as I enjoy painting them.

Sketch Sunday! The red and blue was a good challenge! They are quite tricky combined. The final design turned out to be a package for a made-up honey company. What are your thoughts on how these colors and patterns work together?

I am considering refining and developing this concept for next weekend instead of creating an entirely new moodboard. The challenge would be to create a polished package design.
