The efforts of the Adopt-a-Mile program directly benefit the community through litter prevention, greater civic involvement and area beautification.

Keep Cherokee Beautiful and its new Adopt-A-Mile program hope to encourage businesses and residents to take pride in their local community by keeping the roadsides free of trash and debris.

Bravo to our fellow eco warriors - the Allatoona Lake Warriors! They spent most of their Sunday tending the lake we all love. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ“ฃ Call for Pontoon Boat Captains!! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

The annual Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup needs boat captains to ferry people to dirty shores. ๐Ÿšค

Donโ€™t worry โ€” the trash stays on the shore and will be picked up Sunday and Monday. ๐Ÿšฎ

Please contact Lake Allatoona Association board member, Dave Matthews, if you are interested in joining this effort! ๐Ÿค

Fall migration is about to begin, and millions of birds will soon be traveling through Georgia overnight (yes, most birds migrate at night! ๐ŸŒ™ ).

Artificial lighting can disorient migrating birds, increasing their risk of colliding with buildings. By turning off non-essential outdoor lights between midnight and sunrise during peak migration, you can help make the night sky safer for birds traveling through our state.

Small actions can make a big difference!

Join Birds Georgia in protecting migrating birds this season by participating in Lights Out Georgia. Weโ€™ll share Lights Out Alerts when peak migration is expected, letting you know when itโ€™s especially important to turn off non-essential lights.

Donโ€™t rely on the algorithm to deliver our alerts! Sign up for email alerts so youโ€™ll know when itโ€™s time to take action.

Mark your calendars for these annual October cleanups hosted by the Cherokee County Water And Sewerage Authority! These events are always a good time and family friendly.

With any luck, the temperatures will drop as they do, and we can bring out the flannel for Fall fun! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

Last Thursday evening, the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce held its annual networking event - Schmoozapalooza. ๐Ÿค

Our board president Mark Preetorius and board member Jack Siegel spent the afternoon meeting folks and talking about what we do. If you have questions about adopting a mile, these two friendly guys want to answer them. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Jack joined our board in 2024 and took on the task of tracking data. Spreadsheets are his jam! When you adopt a mile, he will be asking for your stats - numbers of volunteers, hours, and bags collected. That data helps us demonstrate our impact in the community. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Looks like Mark and Jack had a pretty good time. Their smiles are kinda contagious, wouldnโ€™t you agree? ๐Ÿฅฐ

Check out this event this weekend! Itโ€™s fun and a little science-y and a way to contribute to conservation efforts.

While this is not one of our own events, we love to cross-pollinate (haha) by spreading the word! ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ

One of our superstar Adopt-A-Mile teams is Calco Engineering! โญ๏ธ๐ŸŒŸ

Also holding the spot as one of our earliest road adopters, Charlie and Victoria Lanz have been cleaning up Avery Road since July 2021.

This year theyโ€™ve already completed two of their four scheduled cleanups, filling 4-5 contractor sized bags each time.

Charlie and Victoria, we thank you for your dedication and hard work! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™Œ
