Late Summer Tree & Bush Pruning
Late summer is a good time for selective pruning — not major cuts.
Do now:
• Remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches
• Clear water sprouts and suckers
• Lightly shape shrubs that have finished flowering

Wait until winter:
Heavy structural pruning on most trees.
Done right, late-summer pruning keeps your landscape healthier heading into fall. Done wrong, it can stress the plant.

Not sure what your trees and bushes need?
Live Tree Services will walk your property and handle it the right way.
Local experts. Proper timing.

Eastern Redcedar
Scientific Name: Juniperus virginiana

The Eastern Redcedar is an overstory native that can reach heights of 65′ with a 25′ spread full-to- ground. Easily identified by its dark green scale-like leaves, blue berry-like cones, and stripy, fibrous bark. Red Cedar is considered the most drought-resistant conifer in North America. Due to their piney aroma and taste, eastern redcedar berries are browsed by many bird species and are harvested for gin production, although less often than closely-related J. communus.

Fallen trees and fallen branches can cause thousands of dollars of damage to your home. A well-cared-for tree is one of the best ways to protect your home from storm damage. This summer, survey your property and remove or prune trees that are at risk of falling.

Historic Tree

HISTORIC MAGNOLIA FALLS: We can sadly report today a magnolia tree famed for once sitting in centerfield at Ponce De Leon Park (and for just two men ever hitting it for a home run - Babe Ruth and Eddie Mathews) has fallen down. For decades it's sat in an unassuming spot on an incline as a shopping center and then the Beltline sprouted up around it after the ballpark faded away, one of Atlanta's rich, tucked-away pieces of history.
