Matt Elementary
OFFICIAL page of Matt Elementary, home to over 1,000 wonderful students. Located in Cumming, Georgia since 2001! Ms.
Matt Elementary opened in 2001 with approximately 600 students. It was named after the original Matt Elementary, which was located on Bannister Road. The “Old Matt” school was named after the Matt community, which was named after Matison Martin. The original Matt school held 75 students in multiple grades. Rather than desks, students sat on slab benches around an open fireplace. Their drinking water came from a nearby spring and students walked to school. Mary Harwell was the first principal of the new Matt Elementary. The school was a new design concept (the same as Cumming Elementary) and was built to relieve overcrowding in north-west Forsyth County.

Surprise! Attendance Has Its Perks!
Last Friday, our 5th graders were the first winners of Matt Elementary's Surprise Attendance Day!
Throughout the year, we'll randomly choose grade levels to celebrate for showing up, being here, and making our school amazing. As our first winners, 5th graders enjoyed a special recess celebration that made quite a splash!
The best part? This is only the beginning. Another Surprise Attendance Day is coming in October.
Congratulations, 5th grade! Now we're wondering...which grade will be next?

Celebrating Community, Learning, and Opportunity!
On September 10, 2026, our Matt Elementary community came together for an incredible Stars, Stripes, and Standards Curriculum Night! As our nation celebrates America's 250th anniversary, we brought the spirit of red, white, and blue to an evening focused on learning, connection, and Mariner pride.
Families learned about grade-level standards and their child's academic day, while students enjoyed 250-themed specials rotations featuring art, music, coding, STEM, gym activities, and more. Families also explored the Book Fair, visited the Forsyth County Library Book Mobile, met community partners, and enjoyed a special visit from Matty the Otter!
We are grateful for the support of Moohan Martial Arts, Mathnasium, King of Pops, Cub Scouts, Kingdom.and.Company, and our amazing Matt PTO, who always bring the best energy! A special thank you to Kingdom.and.Company for the spectacular balloon backdrop that made the night extra special.
Families also earned raffle tickets throughout the evening for a chance to win some awesome prizes. Winners will be drawn next week!
Most importantly, thank you to our Mariner families. Your partnership and support make a tremendous difference in your child's success and help keep our school community strong.
