Living art, composed for private life. A generational interior design studio in Atlanta — private commissions, coast to coast. The considered over the decorated.

Most people picture design as choosing things.

Stone, tile, a faucet. But the choosing is the fourth phase, and it only works because of the three before it — the questions asked on the first call, the measurements taken off the walls, the layout resolved with no color in it at all.

A room that’s beautiful and doesn’t function was decorated. A room that does both was designed.

A lighting study from an ongoing restaurant concept.

Three images. One room.

Most people describe a room they don’t like as dark, or cluttered, or cold. Usually what they mean is that nothing in it has been given priority. The eye arrives and finds everything at once, so it settles on nothing.

Lighting is how that order gets set. In the last frame nothing was added — the tree, the onyx, the marble floor were all there in the first one. They were simply given a reason to be seen.

A room lit well doesn’t look brighter. It looks intended.

Concept study.

The hardest part of hiring a designer is not knowing what happens after you say yes.

So here it is. Six phases: Inquiry, Survey, Concept, Development, Sourcing, Installation.

Inquiry is where the commission is confirmed — agreement signed, retainer received — and where the studio’s work begins. Nothing starts before that.

The phase that settles most people is Concept. You see the room in full, materials and all, before a dollar of furniture is ordered. Nothing gets bought on a maybe.

Everything after that is ex*****on. Drawings a contractor can build from. Every piece received and inspected at the studio before it reaches your site. And a room that’s finished the day you walk into it.

The wall is the last thing most people get right.

Four pieces, and not one of them is flat. Brass, teak, glass — each built on shadow rather than image, which means each one reads differently at nine in the morning than it does at six at night.

Choose the piece. Then design the light. That second part is where most rooms are lost.

All four at RH. Member and regular pricing on the slides.

Which one would you put up?

This is my why.

I was six the first time I followed my mom onto a job site. I’ve been following her ever since.

Every good memory I have starts with her — the Christmas homes she made magical, the everyday ones she made beautiful, the afternoons I spent quietly watching her work.

She inspires me daily. To think bigger. To be stronger. To keep seeking God in everything I do.

If you’ve had the chance to meet my mom, you know what a nurturing and child-like light she has. She inspired my love for design, and for the small moments within design that make a house feel like a home.
