Why is Georgia paying for these massive AI data centers?
Last week, I spoke at the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) Committee Hearing about the data centers popping up all over Georgia, making Georgia one of the leading states in total data centers in 2026.
I have major concerns as a GA power customer myself and for the thousands of GA power constituents I represent, about how these data centers will greatly increase our power rates, especially since the PSC approved a massive increase in our energy grid capacity last year to meet the need of these Data centers - before the two newly elected commissioners could be sworn in. This increase will force us to burn more coal and fossil fuels, and will inevitably significantly increase our rates.
Are the people of Georgia being considered? A reminder that two PSC races are on the ballot this November, and Peter Hubbard and Shelia Edwards are running to represent you, not GA Power. Update your registration by October 5th, early voting starts October 13th.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Affordability town hall in Cobb. It's important we listen to what the community has to say, and heard a lot about data centers, housing, healthcare, childcare, and more. We need more leadership who will fight for the issues you care about;
This town hall was a part of the Georgia House Democrats tour across the state to listen to the needs of Georgians. We're ready to flip Georgia and create an economy that works for ALL of us!
Make sure to check your voter registration before October 5th, and early vote Oct 13th - 30th. Or vote on Election Day November 3rd! Learn more about what's on your ballot and how to vote with the links in my bio!

FYI, the guy who wrote this piece was paid $10k by Rick Jackson to create a "Democrats for Rick Jackson" group, in case you're wondering where his "change of heart" came from.
OPINION: "Rick Jackson is the first Republican politician I have ever supported as a lifelong Democrat. It may hurt my business and friendships, but I am putting Georgia over my party," writes today's guest contributor.

The media is reporting over 100 teachers who were interrogated yesterday, and I've heard that number could be as many as 200. But ALL teachers are feeling it today with emotions ranging from fear to anger from feeling beaten to feeling emboldened.
I know that the community is behind our staff from the many of you who commented yesterday to those who have reached out to me privately by text, phone call, and messenger. And many have asked what you can do to support them.
For those families who have children in our schools, consider writing your teachers and school staff a note (not through CTLS, but an old school note) telling them how much you appreciate their work with your children and how you're on their side. Especially those support staff that don't always feel the love like the cafe staff, lunch monitors, counselors, and custodians.
And if you have the bandwidth, consider volunteering your time in your school's PTA or Foundation. As a leader in that space, we do a lot of work supporting our teachers in the classroom and it goes a long way towards making their jobs easier. From being a room parent or a copy parent or a media specialist helper to filling their staff lounges with healthy snacks, there's always something you can do to brighten their days.
And for those in the community that don't necessarily have those connections to your local schools, please continue to share their stories. Continue to share what is going in with our district leadership. The more you do so, the more people are aware - so that when they step into the ballot box in November, they are voting for local candidates that care deeply about our public schools.

Make sure to attend and let you're voice be heard! First one is at Milford Recreation Center tomorrow, Thursday, August 27th at 6:30!
In response to recent community interest and discussion surrounding Flock Safety’s automated license plate reader technology, the Cobb County Police Department will host several community town halls.
These meetings will provide an opportunity to learn how the technology is used and safeguarded by the Cobb County Police Department, address common questions and concerns, and hear directly from community members. The goal is to provide clear information about Cobb County’s policies, safeguards, and use of the technology.
The town halls begin this week:
Milford Recreation Center
Thursday, Aug. 27, 6:30 – 8 p.m., 675 Smyrna Powder Springs Road, Marietta
Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center

In case anyone needed reminding where the people are on data centers. (, )
Going against the wishes of Marietta residents, the city approved another data center last night. We must hold elected leaders accountable. Make sure to contact Marietta council and mayor to push for across the board regulations and transparency on any future projects, especially since we are currently in a moratorium until Jan 1st 2027.

Colombia needs our help right now. Parts of western Colombia (where some of my relatives still live) have been decimated by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. Anything you can send or do to help would be much appreciated. I have provided links in my bio on how you can support, including donations to CARE, Project Hope, and World Central Kitchen. If there are any updates or more resources, I'll post them here. Stay tuned.
Se rompe mi corazón al ver Colombia en este momento trágico. Por favor ayuden con donaciones a organizaciones ayudando (enlace en el bio). Voy a seguir compartiendo recursos para apoyar. Reza por Colombia. 🙏🏽🇨🇴

Please support Colombia in this time of need. My family originally came from the region that was most impacted, and we still have family there, so anything you can send or do to help would be much appreciated. If you want to help, you can contribute to the World Central Kitchen. I will be posting more resources as I receive them.
